This may sound like an odd comparison, but Wilder reminds me of Ronda Rousey, another fighter who believed her own hype and ego, and never recovered from one shattering loss. Both Rousey and Wilder are impeccable examples of what happens when you completely lose touch with reality.

To be fair, she didn't hide like a coward and she went back to top level fights again right after. She's more of a man than Wilder.
@dmo75944 жыл бұрын
Its a understandable comparison but I think its still to early to tell. We don't know what is really going on in Wilder's head and his silence isn't an encouraging sign. Imo, Ronda was far worst than Wilder because she was competing against the very best and beating them easily, that fueled her delusions. Before Fury and Ortiz, Wilder was fighting guys everyone knew he could beat.

I really wish that boxing could get away from the stigma that losing has, I think it's playing a big part in killing the sport. For so many fighters having losses on their record is so damaging to their marketability and their ego that they just want to play it safe and pad out their record. I really want to have fighters judged on their performance against other big names rather than their wins to losses ratio.

@dmo75944 жыл бұрын
I don't think the lost affected Wilder as much as the way he lost. I think Wilder knew he wasn't invincible because he said he could lose before. However, Fury didn't just beat Wilder he turned him into a victim. It would be hard for anyone to comeback physiologically from a beating like that. I think Wilder is honestly trying to figure things out technically and heal up his body. Like a said before, Wilder shouldn't take the rematch right now. Instead, he should have taken the step aside money and waited to face the undisputed champ. If their plan was to let the contract expire, why not take the step aside money?
@sparkes9994 жыл бұрын
Because Wilder is not a smart man. He probably looks at taking step aside money as a sign of weakness and is worried what everybody would think of his 'bad man' image.

I agree 100% about Wilder's false perception of his opponents and how good they were. There was a production line of mediocre boxers being built up and hyped up, to then become Wilder's next piece of cannon fodder. They were all kept well away from any decent European figbters to maintain the delusion. This was neither Wilder's fault nor the fault of those who were groomed as his opponents. I blame the American boxing promoters and networks who built this closed shop system to further their own financial interests. Damaging the boxers involved and the sport in the process

@hakimy71004 жыл бұрын
I’m sure Hatman will agree with me saying, Deontay Wilder is the most entertaining fighter out of every weight class currently. Even though he was delusional, his genuine belief in himself and his extraordinary knockout power that, although most of the fights he had were against bums, he still faced some solid competition and the knockouts he had against a lot of them were devastating. I’ll admit, I’m a Fury supporter and always will be one, but man, I miss Deontay Wilder. Forget about how high his ego was, that was what made him somewhat entertaining and what made us, as boxing fans, pay to see him get a reality check from someone only to find that individual knocked out cold.

Straight after the fight his Mrs was knelt beside him rubbing his shoulders and reassuring him. He looked emotionally destroyed and like he was struggling to compute what had just happened. The whole “I want to be shut up” speech confirms that beyond any reasonable doubt

Watching this video, I was just amazed by the amount of ego and hubris displayed in it by Hatman. It just reeks of "I told you so" by a guy who has not only never spoken to Wilder, or anyone on his team, but who actively ignores all of the news that HAS been put out regarding the 3rd fight w/ Fury. And add to that the fact the man is flat out wrong, and it's even more amazing. Let's start w/ the obvious, which is the ego, as Hatman is declaring emphatically that Wilder doesn't want the 3rd fight, and somehow didn't want it even before the 2nd fight took place. Wow Nostradamus, I had no idea this guy had a crystal ball in his pocket. And he's somehow drawing this conclusion from the fact that Wilder hasn't spoken to mainstream boxing media (who are the only people Hatman bothers to listen to outside of the UK). Where he's wrong is the fact that Wilder's team has been adamant that he still wants the rematch, as well as the fact Wilder was demanding the rematch immediately after the fight. There's also the fact that the entire world went through a freaking pandemic, that apparently Hatman slept through and didn't read about in the newspapers or see on television. There's also the fact that Bob Arum has been on public record that if they can't get big crowds into arenas for the fight, then he'd rather not have the rematch so soon. Especially since people in the U.S. here are still hurting from being out of work for months on end. The fact of the matter is that Wilder has spoken to numerous other sources, even here on YT, who has stated that he still intends to fight the 3rd fight w/ Fury. In fact, the fight would've been in December, except ESPN (the network that hosts Fury's fights here in the States) didn't wanna hold the fight on that date due to having to compete w/ college football which is really big here in the States. But none of that matters to Hatman, because in his ego & hubris, it HAS to be that Wilder never did and still doesn't want the 3rd fight.

@@G-Man78 You have absolutely no proof whatsoever that Wilder's embarrassed, that's just speculation on your part. And it's the promoter's job to promote the fight, hence the title promoter. His job is to fight, and is as long as he's willing and training for the fight, then he's doing his job.

Imo it was the manner in which he lost. After the first fight he would have believed that the only way he could lose to Fury was if he was outboxed for 12, he then could have played the fury didn't want to fight card... but instead he was pulverised so he feels as if all his cards are marked. Let's face it, he only agreed to the first fight because he thought it would be an easy fight against a washed up Fury.

35-40 years old is one of the most fascinating age ranges for a boxer & particularly HW boxer. This is an excellent analysis and all true from beginning to end. Well done mate. Wilder needs to grow up, stop pretending about himself, realise his limitations, and then get the right help from here on. Then he could come back stronger, but that's a big ask from a silly kid who keeps up this crap about, 'your king is still here....all my people etc. etc.' delusional nonsense. The man never wanted to box, he wanted to play football. When that didn’t work out for him he wanted to play basketball. When that didn’t work out he found boxing. His heart was never truly in it, it was just a means to an end. Fair play to him he’s provided generational wealth for his kids and became HW champ (albeit having only beaten washed up or poor opposition). I believe that he will never be the same after the fury loss. His over reliance on landing his right hand has cost him and he knows that, he will never have that same confidence going into a fight again. When he was losing against Ortiz he believed he could land and win the fight, and he did. Next time he’s in that situation now though, he will have flashbacks to the fury fight where he couldn’t get it off and his confidence will be shaken. Like hatman said he elevated himself so much in his own estimation that the loss has to have had a profound effect on him and his belief in his ability, as well as his trust in his ‘get out of jail free’ right hand
