Overall good and helpful content on this channel. One change in the radio call I would suggest (in addition to Warren's notes below) is one I teach my students, which is to avoid using the generic "Cessna" or manufacturer name and use the model name for that airplane. Since Cessna makes Citation jets, Caravan turboprops, as well as the piston-driven Centurions, Stationairs, Skylanes and Skyhawks, all with varying levels of performance, it gives the tower, TRACON and ARTCC more immediate information about what type of air traffic they are dealing with. So, instead of saying "Cessna 518 Foxtrot Tango", saying "Skyhawk 518 Foxtrot Tango" conveys more information to the listener. Especially to fellow pilots when working a traffic pattern at a non towered airport.

Makes sense.

Agreed :) saying “Cessna(tail #)” is about as useful as saying “Airplane(tail #)”.

Really like the slow, calm instructions and explanations. Having only 20 hours of instruction, communication is still intimidating.

Yes it really can be! Stay tuned for the next few weeks, we’ll have much more content on communications.

Brilliant! I’ve been training at an untowered airport so this is something I need to practice now.

Love it. I only fly simulators, and somehow I'm more familiar with IFR procedures than VFR, so I'm very happy to have you, with your excellent teaching skills explain it to me! Always great to learn something new!

My PPL checkride is just over a week away. Great refresher content, as always. Funny, how I've never thought to just say "VFR departure to the...", sounds much more professional than the confusing mess I say to ATC for my departures. Looking forward to getting started after my PPL with your instrument and G1000 courses! Keep up the great content!

@@More-right-rudder Busted. Need more rudder control in stalls. We live, we learn. At least that's the only part I need to redo.

A bit different here in Switzerland but still close. We would specifically say the registration, then the make and model of the aircraft, our destination, current location, what we want and ATIS info. Something like this: "Geneva ground, HB-CDF, Piper 28, VFR to Lausanne, parking GAC, request taxi with information Bravo" Nice video, by the way!

Thanks! Hope to one day experience that in Switzerland!

I like how you use the word departure. Instead of take off. I’ve noticed a lot of pilots use the word take off on pilot edge when holding short . Your communication is very professional . I’m trying to get there. Thanks very much for posting these videos

That was a great introduction. Even though this is taking about US airspace everything was on point for UK too right up to the point where you declare you’ve left class D airspace and just switch frequency. Here you would stay on frequency. The director would tell you when you have left radar controlled airspace and only then should you request a frequency change if wanted

How about after the frequency change is approved? Who would you talk to next? Is approach already input in the radios or do you fly silent till you start reaching the destination airport? Thank you!

If you wanted to get VFR flight following, can you ask ground for it? I think I remember reading it's up to their workload on if they can help you and if not they might tell you you need to contact someone once airborne?
@flightinsight91112 жыл бұрын
Correct. They may be able to coordinate with Approach for you, or at least tell you which frequency to use for the request.

Lame question but how do you change the GPS in flight sim? I’ve been trying to change it to help with my repetition.
