Welcome to the Department of Science and Mathematics, DEREE-ACG. The department of Science and Mathematics is under the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences and it has a very long history within the American College of Greece which approaches its 150th anniversary. The importance of STEM education has never been more in need of emphasis than nowadays, when colleges like our own are called upon to promote responsible and informed citizenship and ethical accountability. STEM education in general, should offer a broad as well as in-depth exposure to knowledge that ascertains society’s commitment to the values of equal opportunity, diversity and inclusion while at the same time cultivates critical and innovative thought. Our department is here to provide an enriching academic and transformative experience and help students pursuit a successful future career. The mission of the department is to provide students with the appropriate background in Mathematics/Statistics, and in the Natural/Physical Sciences and Engineering.
The Department of Science and Mathematics offers two Bachelor’s degree programs. The Environmental Studies (ES) Program launched in 2010, and the Biomedical Sciences (BMS) Program launched in 2020. It also offers 2+2 joint programs in Engineering & Science in collaboration with Clarkson University, in USA. In addition, the department offers minors in Biology and in the Environmental Studies and interdisciplinary minors in Environmental Management, and in Tourism & Sustainability. It also supports the Psychology Program and the Liberal Education program.
The introduction of Science programs would not have been possible if we had not invested in creating the appropriate labs and research spaces needed to support science programs. At Deree we value lab work and we are grateful for all the support we have received from the Higher Administration, the donors, USAID funding, the hard work of our faculty and staff and the excellent work done by the technical services.
