Depeche Mode was taken from the name of a french fashion magazine. It means fast fashion. Legendary band that has influenced many people.
@garryiglesias40745 жыл бұрын
??? Fast ???? You felt in the wrong alternative... Depeche Mode was as you said a magazine... "Depeche" is a COMMON name for newspaper... A "depeche" means a "short information" (short news), because it was written quickly that's true... But that sense came AFTER... "Depeche" means dispatch originally. But the "Depeche" in depeche mode is like "X reporter" or "X daily" or "La depeche du midi" (A southern france newspaper). So Depeche Mode means "Fashion News".
@IAmFat19685 жыл бұрын
I'm French and I can tell you that's wrong ! Garry Iglesias told the right translation (Fashion News)

I remember when this song was first released here in the States. It didn't get a ton of radio play, but I knew it well. Then they re-released it and the radio discovered it and played the every living hell out of it. It was YEARS, if not decades, before I could listen to it again. That said, it's a GREAT song and has a brilliant message. I prefer DM's songs which are written by Martin. My absolutely favorite DM song is "Somebody." I remember being in college and staying up late studying with "Somebody" on full repeat on my father's fancy stereo.

Depeche is a French word translated to English means Dispatch. Many of their songs are about "Dispatching" stereo typically common thoughts about other cultures or ideals. I was 17 and in high school in 1983 (yes I'm an old fart) so listen to your pappy :P

The song list for this band is massive with tons of hits. They still put out albums and have a large, devoted fan base. And, their new albums are actually good. Playing the Angel is one of my favorites from them. Some suggestions: Enjoy the Silence (video version), Shake the Disease, I Feel You, Precious, Home, Suffer Well (video version), and Free Love.

During this era they did indeed build up percussion tracks from samples of metal "instruments" straight out of the scrapyard. The classic line-up: Martin Gore (songwriter), Alan WIlder (most of the instrumentation), Dave Gahan (lead singer), Andy Fletcher (spare part) It's odd that Martin Gore really hates this lyric. It's not what you would call out-of-character - for one thing he's never overcome his tendencies toward awkward rhyming and unintentionally funny turns of phrase, while the theme of the song is obviously one he's returned to. I hope you get around to checking out some more mature Depeche Mode. Assuming it's watchable in your territory, this kzbin.info/www/bejne/pn6nlZlvm6aAiLc is a good place to go next.

This song is about conflict that occur because of diversity or judging people who are different from you who might be scapegoated. Also, this song came out during the early to mid 80's where nuclear war was a real possibility. Great song layered with many issues that could be solved with ONE MESSAGE.

Well said, India! I love this song for the important message as well as for the cool synthesizers, dance beat and vocals. I was in college when this came out, and it brings back great memories of dancing with my friends. The old news reels were from World War II, which made for an interesting reminder about what hatred can lead to. Like you said, we need more empathy and understanding and kindness in the world today. Interestingly enough, the man with the puffy blonde hair who sings the higher parts, writes nearly all of their material to this day. About six years after this song was a hit he found out he (Martin L. Gore) was being raised by his biological mother, bit his father wasn’t his biological father. It turns out his father is African American and from Virginia, I believe. His mother met him when he was a soldier and Martin was the result of their fling. They are still an enormously popular band and play to huge crowds even though they received little airplay in the states. They are extremely unique in that they used sampling to create natural sounds instead of using it to take pieces or sounds from other bands.
