No 7ths 9ths or sus chords. There really is no musical talent there at all. No wonder Curtis Hung himself it must have been really depressing to turn up to Joy Division rehearsals knowing that what you are hearing is the limit of the bands capabilities. You could Literally write their songs in 5 minutes with a limited musical capability and thats what you hear. On the otherhand Martin Gore actually writes simple parts to DM songs but obviously has some understanding of melody and harmony and music theory in general because he laces those parts together to form songs with structure. And after that Alan Wilder got his hands on them to fine tune everything. And Wilder just happens to be one of those classically trained musicians with more musical ability than the rest of DM and New order put together. Talking shyte? I am your regular white dude living in former (thank god for that) soviet union. I'm a bit more than decade younger than you. I had my phases in life when it comes to music. When i was young ''punk'' i got swept away by hip hop and i have to admit, hip hop from 90's performed by the greats was... great, many master pieces. Then when i got a bit older i turned to rock, metal and other alternative genres because i felt it still had a soul. Now that im even older i start seeing why these GREAT artists (like DM) are still played a lot, in radio, in super market... in elevator, in someones wedding or funeral. They are just special and i dont feel any of the same emotions when it comes to modern music, it feels dead, soulless. Anyway, just my opinion, take it how you will. And when it comes to likes or dislikes, i think most of the dislikes are from kids who really dont know much anyway so no need to make a fuss about it. They will learn with age, everybody does.

@@johncoffyWell yeah, very early on you had plenty of well known bands using Moogs and other synthesizers as an accompaniment to their music, e.g. Led Zeppelin "The Crunge", many works by Rush including of course 2112, Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, but you probably wouldn't define the music as a whole as electronic until the likes of for example Alan Parsons Project, ELP, etc. Of course a lot of 80's music contained synthesizers, but again it was accompanying the melody rather than driving it in most cases. I would classify Depeche Mode as synth pop, where as many of Alan Parsons works were more straight synth. Anything earlier than Parsons that is straight synth, if it exists, must be very obscure because I haven't heard of anything and I am a huge fan of the genre. Doesn't mean it doesn't though, I still discover old stuff all the time I never knew about in all genres I enjoy, and is one thing I live about music, there is such a deep rabbit hole to dive into.

Late 80's to early 90's was a great period for music. Poppy new wave stuff was on the way out, but the darker grungy stuff hadn't taken off yet. It was a nice in between period. This was also a time when the CD really took a foothold and the quality of the sound improved drastically on albums. Sure, compact discs were around awhile before but nobody could afford a stereo that played them, and the discs themselves were twice as much as a cassette tape early on. Got my first CD boom box for my 13th birthday in '89 and this disc was among my first few. My very first was Faith No More The Real Thing, another classic of the era.

One dark day, when I was in middle school, this song began to play on my radio- just as a glorious lightning display got underway outside. I vividy remember staring out my kitchen window, in awe of how the flashes seemed to sync perfectly with the rhythm of the song. I ended up writing a short story inspired by the images conjured through the alchemy of this song and that storm. The story won a couple of awards at my school. I still think of it every time I hear this, and that's been over 30 years ago! ❤⛈️

For those who can’t resist singing along💙💙💙💙You had something to hide Should have hidden it, shouldn't you? Now you're not satisfied With what you're being put through It's just time to pay the price For not listening to advice And deciding in your youth On the policy of truth Things could be so different now It used to be so civilized You will always wonder how It could have been if you'd only lied It's too late to change events It's time to face the consequence For delivering the proof In the policy of truth Never again Is what you swore The time before Never again Is what you swore The time before Now you're standing there tongue tied You better learn your lesson well Hide what you have to hide And tell what you have to tell You'll see your problems multiplied If you continually decide To faithfully pursue The policy of truth Never again Is what you swore The time before Never again Is what you swore The time before Never again Is what you swore The time before Never again Is what you swore The time before Never again Is what you swore The time before

Maybe it's just my take, and by no means is this negative because I absolutely love Depeche Mode, but for me this album really put them on the map. I was in the 8th grade when this came out, and prior to this it was mostly just the goth artsy dress in all black types that listened to their music and I dismissed it as weird and dull without giving it a chance. After hearing policy of truth I really enjoyed it and began to discover more of their older stuff and became a fan. Now as an old guy I can't get enough of this type of sound 😂

The sound of Depeche Mode is different from other electronic band, they translate human emotion through electronic synthesizer. There is something in this band that i cant explain, this is not the unusual electronic pop band. When I am heard there song, " But not tonight" its so nostalgic and mellow dramatic song that takes me back on happy times of my life.
