DepEd guidelines for Honors and Awards

Candidates for honors in Grades 1 to 10 shall be drawn from the top ten (10) pupils/students of the school who performed at the Advanced Level. They must not have a final grade lower than 85 (Proficient Level) and they should have no grade at Developing Level in any quarter.
All candidates for honors must be of good moral character and have not been subjected to any disciplinary action within the current School Year.
Achievements of pupils/students in specific academic disciplines (such as Mathematics, Science and English) and in special curricular areas (such as sports, the arts and campus journalism) shall be given recognition. A separate set of honor students may be declared for each curriculum program.
The School Head shall be the chairman of the School Selection Committee composed of at least three (3) members from the teaching staff and shall make the final announcement of honor pupils/students after final results have been duly recommended to and approved by the School Head and/or Schools Division Superintendent, respectively, not later than fifteen (15) days before the recognition/commencement rites. Candidates for honors and their advisers must be present during the selection process.

Thank you for this. This is helpful. Question, what if the average grade of the student in let's say 3rd quarter is 97.5, what academic excellence award will that fall into? Highest honor or high honor? Thanks.

According to DepEd Order No. 36, S.2016 Academic Excellence Award: For average of 98 - 99.., it will belong to With Highest Honors po..some schools however varies on this interpretation if yung 97.5 is considered to be part of this range.. here's my take on this.. according to this memo, if 89.5 yung bata, bawal padin sya maging honors kasi stricly 90 dapat yung average.. given this reminder, I think 97.5 still falls within 97 range which is only High Honors.. however some schools practices rounding off the grades to be more advantageous sa student.. for this matter, I would suggest to have the final say from the School Principal talaga po..

@@MathGraceSensei According po sa DO 36, general average should be reported as whole number following DO 8 s 2015. So 89.5 po should be rounded off to 90 and the learner should be awarded “With Honors.”

Great explanation; but can you tell what's the purpose of conduct awards? Sorry, I will be honest with my opinion. I do have concerns wit giving perfect attendance and character awards to students. If you state that xyz recieves good moral values type of award, other students hearing it in public might think they are not good enough, having self doubt or worse, thinking they're a bad or notty child just because they don't recieve anything. Also, you don't award natural personalities like cheerfulness for example, because it's within them with no effort at all. They don't need recognition for it. They're made to be that way. With the perfect attendance award, it gives presure to not have absences regardless if they have problems or valid reasons. It does'nt consider if you have students with special cases like a health condition. Yes. Attendance is verry important in school, but we don't need the award for perfection.that's too much presure. Actually character and attendance awards uses the system of; be good and you will get this, or the opposite; instead of be good because it's for our wellbeing. Another thing is that when you go to college, universities don't require for awards like this to submit. Instead of giving character specific like the enthusiastic, eager or cheerful soul award, you can change it to student of the year; where 1 student is picked to represent the combination of all positive values without labeling. then, go straight with the rest, and no perfect attendance award. This is only my sugestion and personal feelings about this subject

Conduct award: Yes,this award may be based sa personification ng isang tao,pero still deserve nila ng award,kasi maaring cheerful ang isang tao,pero di naman sya makatao,makakalikasan or what else,kaya di nya na reach yung standard ng DepEd sa isang bata na deserve ng conduct,maari na gloomy yung isang tao pero he is very makatao,makakalikasan,makabansa,makadyos or what,kaya he deserve an award kasi it's difficult to be qualified in those standards.it's all base nalang sa bata if gusto nya maging qualified. Perfect Attendace: All depends lang talaga sa bata if gagawin nya to,And still deserve nang tao magkaroon ng perfect attendance award kasi mahirap din abutin yon,i mean a student could be taking care of his/her health para maachieve lang to.😢❤ Ate hindi posya yung gumawa ng mga awards na yan kaya wag posya yung tanungin nyo, (tanungin nyo po ang DepEd if you want to speak for your opinionsHahha) Spreaaddd peaacceee

Yung awards committee po ay nakabase naman po sa memo, so kung ano ang consensus for sure pinag-isipan po at binase sa mga deped memos and guidelines na nakapost ng deped na website.. kung ano na po ang decision nila noted by the SH na din po yun for sure ☺️

Kung 88, 89 at 91 ang previous nya na grades.. kailangan po makakuha sya ng 92 pataas para maqualify sa final average of 90 pero this is not based on 1 subject alone.. it should be the final average of all 8 subjects po..

First you find the individual average per subject.. example in math you add all grades from 1st to 4th then divide it by 4.. lastly you find the total of all average og 8 subjects then divide it by 8..

DepEd also has a system called LIS where advisers only encode the grades and it will automatically give the average as well as the remarks for each student (passed, retained or other status)..

Yes, it is possible.. to get an honor award, kailangan general average mo is 90 so a total of 360 points kung iaadd mo yung 4 scores.. pero take note that candidates for honors must not have a Final Grade or Final Rating lower than 85 and a grade lower than 80 in any quarter.. according to DO 15, s. 2016..

@@MathGraceSenseiHello po ma’am. As I understand po, DO 15 s 2016 is effective for S.Y. 2015-2016 only po. And according po sa DO 36 s 2016, an average of at least 90 and a “passing Final Grade” in all learning areas po ang kailangan to be qualified for an academic excellence award, hindi po kailangan na 85 and above lahat ang final grades.
