Fun fact, Factory Girl's VU features two members of Weezer (Brian Bell and Patrick Wilson)

This was fun to watch. I'd forgot that "Vinyl" included a Velvets scene, which I agree is very good even though the show was largely forgettable. There's a Factory scene in Oliver Stone's absolute turkey "The Doors" which features a terrible depiction of Andy Warhol as well as basically reducing Nico to a groupie giving Jim Morrison head. I'm not 100% sure but I seem to remember there being a brief flash of Lou in there as well.

Indeed the scene in The Doors was ridiculous, and Nico's depiction exploitative. There was no Lou Reed or Velvet Underground depiction, they were just mentioned by the guy who introduced Jim to Nico, but the songs 'Venus In Furs' and 'Heroin' were used as background music. I'm surprised Lou Reed allowed that to be honest, especially given yet another sinister portrayal of Andy Warhol!

Lou and rest of VU hated “I shot Andy Warhol” and its director (for valid reasons)… But I’m still a fan of Yo La Tengo and Michael Imperioli..
@CAMFORRESTER Жыл бұрын
It was a sensitive matter for sure, and understandably so...but indeed, Michael Imperioli was brilliant as Online, and Yo La Tengo playing the VU was fun to watch! Lili Taylor's performance was also outstanding I thought. Lou and John famously disagreed on the matter of whether the film glorified Solanas - although Lou refused to allow any VU music to be used, John composed the score, maintaining that the film was in no way sympathetic to her character.

The bunch playing the VU in Vinyl should go on as a tribute band - sounded great!

It just goes to show the Velvet Underground & their discography is very well-known in modern times thus their impact on pop culture is very large today as it was back in the day. I mean based on cultural/groundbreaking impact, innovation, influence & historic significance plus critical acclaim, I would put the VU up along with other immortals, legends & icons: The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Elvis, Rolling Stones, Chuck Berry, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Stevie Wonder, Prince, Pink Floyd, The Who, Ray Charles, Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin, The Beach Boys, David Bowie, Johnny Cash, Miles Davis etc. Anyway thanks for posting this!

Cor, the third clip it's an alternative universe where the Velvet Underground are a hippie band!! 😅 The first clip was actually very noice though!!

Yeah it's certainly somewhat over the top, but fun to watch!

The main problem with biopics, in general, is that the people NEVER look like or act like the famous individuals they are supposed to portray! Just saying.🤣

As much as I would want a biopic, with the other biopics like Elvis, I am scared to see it.
@CAMFORRESTER Жыл бұрын
Nobody wants to see TVU depicted like, for example, The Doors were in Oliver Stone's film. I think a biopic would be out of the question now, since Lou Reed is no longer alive to provide his input. I'm sure the story could be faithfully told by John Cale, but given the nature of their creative relationship, I think both points of view would be needed to write a comprehensive script that authentically recreates the tension and rivalry between the two genius minds, which resulted in he intense music we all know and love in the first place.

@@CAMFORRESTER Yeah, I can imagine the film heavily showing Lou and Steve (if they even show Sesnick) being really bad people. I guess the documentary is enough for me, though they rushed the last two albums, and Sterling, as usual, is little mentioned, though I can understand why...

@@CAMFORRESTER The Doors was a complete clusterfuck and harmed the way my generation looked at The Doors. I thought it was mostly true until I grew to know that Oliver Stone created a version that was mostly from how he think Morrison was. If VU were to being on the screen I would want it to be at least 5 part mini series because screenwriters, directors and producers always run in to the problem of what to keep and what to tell that fits it narrative .If they get more time, like if it was a 5 episodes, they could represent each member and have space to create kind of whole story. The new Sex Pistols TV Series flopped in that way but they could have done this better, i think as a fan.

@@CAMFORRESTER There is a VU documentary that is much better and more accurate than the depiction of VU in Vinyl, Factory Girl, and The Doors. The actors and actresses who inaccurately played the roles of Nico and VU members ought to be ashamed of themselves. How do they sleep at night?

Sounds amazing. Please please please come to Toronto. You could surely book a gig at The Velvet Underground club here. I'd be happy to put you up or help out in any way.
