Yes friends, I'm right! The og song is tuned down a quarter step from your version
@trishudeshi79822 күн бұрын
So I played casually along with the song today, trying to figure it out before coming to KZbin. I wound up having to change my tuning a quarter note for it to sound alike? Was my guitar tuned wrong from the start?

Killing it again Mr F. So authentic I started listening for the crackle I remember from the vinyl version. Also, as Jack Nicholson asks in the 1989 Batman movie, "Where does he get those wonderful toys?" I used a vox jaguar on a demo tape many moons ago, but I don't know where it is. I'd give a lot to have it nowadays.

Another great rendition of a great band ….when I was a teen I read Tim Page’s autobiography about his experiences as a Photojournalist at the height of the Vietnam war (Page after Page) and “We gotta get out of this place” was fittingly the top tune at their digs in Saigon.

Fab song! I didn't realise until only recently when I researched for these videos that it's not Alan Price on the organ though - he quit the band before this track was recorded and was replaced by Dave Rowberry, who was clearly also an excellent player!

I understand what you mean...but at the same time in fairness, they were all middle aged by this point, so the sound was never going to be quite as speedy and chaotic as it was back in the day. Unfathomably, John Cale claims they never played this song live back in the 60s...🤯

Another band you cited as an influence. The Doors were very defining as The Velvet Underground, yet I'm more interested in the latter than former. I would say both influenced countless alternative artists. Not to mention they released their debuts in the same year!

@@CAMFORRESTER it would be cool. Bach's influence on ray's playing is unique and added to the diverse sound of the doors. i mean ray's left hand was the bass and he never wasnt perfect. thats a challenge. the rhodes electric piano on "riders on the storm" is worth a video alone!

I'm so glad you did this Mr Forrester. You have now explored the sounds of the two bands who were the biggest influences on my own songwriting and interest in music. It's always a joy when new content of yours drops onto my feed. You're killing it on that Vox! I am also awed by the amount of research you put into your documentaries and short features. I'm in my 60s but you have made me remember the impact bands like the Velvets and the Doors had on me as a young man. I'm surprised you can give your own music the attention it deserves when you're cranking out stuff of this quality. Never stop though, never stop.
