"Everything else as HTTP APIs" is the correct modern approach, I agree. I've seen afew people who want to model their non-realtime features over a low level bidirectional binary stream like raw sockets/TCP, sometimes even on some monolithic gameserver, and there is no reason to do that. Many reasons to not do that.

Noice. Just curious, why does PlayFab use AWS componets and not Azure components? Does playfab itself believe AWS is superior to Azure for MMOG?

How can I control number of game sessions ("game rooms") per instance?

your have a legit question here, for this time you already figure out but the easy path is to create a supervisors(a separate script with a simple http server like flask) that stop to created "game rooms" and instead directly run a new room you ask this script if it is posible run a new "game room" if not, you go throw an error and you ask maybe to created another EC instances for this new room

I have finally come across a way to setup a game server.. well, at least the idea of it. The actual implementation will be difficult but thanks for the information!
