Hi Meghan! I've been working at a garden center for the past three years and just wanted to let you know that your "garden pinks" are dianthus. Dianthus are actually perennials so they will come back every year! I love them, they're so pretty. I live in New Jersey so they bloom mostly in the summer time. Every couple weeks or so the flowers get brown and the stems begin to fall over, when that happens we cut them back leaving two or three inches left and in a couple days new blooms will start to come up. Most perennials are like this in summer months. At the end of the season, don't cut them back, let the flowers "die" off for the fall and winter, then when spring comes again cut them back like before and you'll have new blooms for the season. :) I hope this helped. I really enjoy hearing about your garden! Keep up the good work!

Instead of watering your flowers at night, try doing it in the morning! I heard that if you water them in the evening the plant can get too cold and damp which can cause rotting in the root systems, but honestly if that's the only time you can water, then I don't think it's that big of a deal. Your garden is looking great and it's so nice to see a young homesteader (lol). I'm living vicariously through you 😂
@missmeghanvlogs6 жыл бұрын
ok i will try that! when i filmed myself watering mid-day people said i should do it at dusk instead! but i get why morning is probably best! im just not usually up early enough! lmfao
@sagittariusoul236 жыл бұрын
You wanna do it really early in the morning or at dusk, if you do it after like 10 or 11 the sun will be too hot and it can burn the leaves if they're wet!

A lot of the time when you transplant something the existing leaves and/ or flowers will die off because it's transferring it's energy to growing roots, which means some of the plant may die back. It's okay this is natural!Just keep watering them and if they really start to die off cut them back and they will eventually grow back healthy. I'm an avid gardener/botanist/ecology student let me know if you have any other questions :) ps. super jealous of your garden and all the space you have for planting.

Me and my dad grew huge sunflowers in our garden and they really just take time and need a lot of water. It just takes them time for their roots to grow into the new soil! Also misting/ getting the rest of the plant a lil wet helps! You’re growing like all of the same plants we used to have it’s so cute :)

Hi girly! When you transplant, make sure you do it early in the day or later in the evening. The plant will undergo a lot of strain if it is sunny and hot when the transplanting is taking place. Also, the roots have to re acclimate themselves in their new home in the ground. During that time, they may not have as well of time uptaking water, which is why you'll see some death on the leaves. Give the plant a couple days to get used to the new place, then give it a bit of fertilizer and yes to the watering!!! :) Good luck! The garden looks beautiful

I love the farm updates! Most annual flowers do have their buds die and then they rebud the next year just fine but we have had problems with planting new ones and not having them rebud so I would just watch them especially around the time that they would rebud naturally. So excited to see how the greenhouse works out, best of luck!!
@otheilemann16 жыл бұрын
Whaddup!!! I work at a nursery up in bellingham washington (similar climate zones) and you little pink flowers are perennial so they will die off after the first frost and then come back in spring!! With all your summer bloomers, make sure you dead head them in order to promote more bloom growth! With dead heading, you have to make sure an not just pull off the crusted petals but to also pull off the seed pods they bloom from. Does that make sense? You can do this with your annuals and perennials for blooms all summer long!! Also, I know this is extra work, but I would really recommend putting your herbs in containers and pots. Herbs can be super invasive (esp parsley, mint, cilantro, etc.. ) and can re-seed throughout your entire bed and you will never be able to get rid of it. For the sunflowers, try finding a fertilizer (the dr. earth probably has this) that has mycorrhizae in it to help stimulate root growth and re-establishment. Might I recommend Gardner and Bloom's starter fertilizer! And they will need a LOT of water. You wanna make sure you are giving them a slow, deep trickle and really take your time with it. I know its a lot of work but I would give each of those little girls a half gallon a day in these hot months. And if you haven't already, you always wanna plant some compost in with your native soil whenever you are putting a plant in the ground. They were probably used to the nice garden soil you had in your bed and now might be like "Ahhhh clay!!!!" and they need some manure and composted material to help break that down. Anyhoozles, keep up all the fun! I am super jealous of your setup. Welcome to the PNW!!!
