More than six years after the horrific Humboldt Broncos bus crash, the man driving the semi-truck has been ordered to be deported.
An Immigration and Refugee Board hearing was held virtually in Calgary for Jaskirat Singh Sidhu on Friday morning, where the decision was handed out.
The decision was a forgone conclusion, according to Sidhu’s lawyer Michael Greene, who has said all that’s required to deport his client is proof that he is not a Canadian citizen and he committed a serious crime.
“That happened,” Greene said Friday. “There’s no contest, which is why we conceded those points and it was over and done with within a matter of minutes.”
Sidhu was granted full parole last year.
Greene said the deportation process could take months or years. Meanwhile, Greene said he plans to file an application asking the government to return Sidhu’s permanent resident status on humanitarian and compassionate grounds.
Sarah Offin has more.

I'm not being racist but many drivers from India are driving like crazy in Canada and totally ignoring their safety and the safety of others. When I was driving in Surrey, British Columbia, I saw several drivers who are totally ignoring traffic rules and when I saw their faces, I'm sure they are from India. Those Indians who grew up in Canada and learned their driving skills here are very different from those who learned their driving skills in Indian. That's a FACT!

^^^ this person here went driving in a municipality with one of Canada's largest concentrations of Indian Canadians, within a larger city (Vancouver) known for its nightmare drivers, and by the power of their incredible powers of deductive reasoning has determined that it's the "Indian" part of the equation that's most relevant. It would be like going to the USA (country known for the love of firearms), travelling to the whitest town imaginable, and concluding that all white people everywhere are gun nuts. Driving definitely has cultural attachments, and so you do have a point that also applies to immigrant drivers from any country; your sampling just seems inconclusive to me

Maybe the people who failed to fix that intersection should be held accountable as well. There are a lot of people who should have been held accountable for that tragedy who recieved a slap on the wrist at most. The driver is not some sort of monster. He was just a normal man doing his best to make a living doing a job without adequate training under crappy working conditions. He made a mistake that virtually all of us, if we were forced to be perfectly honest, would have to admit to making ourselves many times. Ask yourself, is he being punished for what he did or simply for the consequences of what he did? Perhaps we should all be jailed

I have been to India and I was appalled at what I saw. It is a cultural thing, as they simply do not observe the rules of the road. They do not observe lanes and swerve all over the place...There are many deadly accidents and this is just accepted as being normal... The population is so huge that one human life is apparently not worth very much to them. To turn a newly arrived immigrant from India loose on the Canadian highways before having undergone extensive Canadian based diver training and testing is INSANE.

They do have to pass our driving test. I’ve worked for DriveTest and I assure you that our system in Ontario is a joke. We pass people with minimum skills. That’s what they drilled into all of us during training. “Minimum skills!?” I asked. In complete disbelief. You don’t even really have to be able to speak much English or French. Just understand it. To be fair to all the new Canadians out there though, I’ve seen my fair share or bad drivers that their families have been here for generations. So no excuses.

He's a fall guy for cheap trucking companies. New immigrants rely on their employment to stay in the country and their employers use that leverage to skirt safety and labour regulations. They'll bribe driving instructors to certify their guys, get them to forge their books so they can drive longer shifts, then wipe their hands clean when one them kills a bus full of kids. Deport him or not, the people above him need to be held accountable. Canadian born truckers have been complaining about these practices for years, but people love free next day delivery.

I stood there wondering how these guys even got and successfully passed the written exams to acquire their class A license in Canada to begin. I also get to see the insane lack of even basic driving skills like; following too close, driving on or across yellow lines, zero consideration of fellow drivers attempting to merge, and on and on and on... I'm not trying to make excuses for this guy. He killed 16 people after all. However it was an accident, now i am not saying there shouldn't be any repercussions for it. However, from my understand the company he worked for had all kinds safety violations and even think there were issues with the truck. Meanwhile here in Canada we're seeing Palestine protesters assaulting jewish people. Bomb threats to jewish schools. We had an active shooter go to a jewish school. We had a 15 year old kid research how to make a bomb and was arrested with bomb making materials on his person, and he allegedly had plans to go bomb some place with a crowd like a synagogue or something. Last christmas we saw Palestinians threatening "i'll put you six feet under" to a cop. Last year a group of Eritreans all met up in a calagary park and rioted damaging public and private propery/vehicles. They brought machetes, 2x4s, baseball bats, crowbars, and beat the hell out of one another. In their home country of Eritrea there's two groups that absolutely hate one another and are at civil war, so many on both sides applied for refugees status and came to canada, once here they realized the other group they hate is also in canada and they brought their problems from their own country to canada. We've also got the whole Khalistani movement which is considered a terrorist group/organization in India hiding in Canada. This group even has a "khalistan commando force” which is a militant group which operates in Canada as well as many other countries. Nothing screams peaceful like a militant group. These people also had a gathering/protest in Richmond or Chilliwack or this general region where they were all gathered with guns ij the open and threatening people on the street and even talked publicly how they were basically going to become politicians and get jobs of authority and take over Canada. The list goes on yet we deport someone over an accident but keep all these other people and groups in our country? definitely not right

Not an accident. He was charged with 16 counts of dangerous driving causing death also 13 counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm. Any crime you commit as a Permanent Resident that has a sentence of 6 months or more will result in deportation. A few years age a German woman who came to Canada at the age of 7 was sent to prison for mortgage fraud and then deported back to Germany. Think of Permanent Residence as probation on a job. Screw up bad enough and you are kicked out

@@BillBally it was very much an accident otherwise he would’ve been charged with murder. I will agree on the dangerous driving and negligence for sure. However according to him he was distracted by a tarp flapping around on his truck. As I’ve mentioned above, Palestinians are assaulting Jewish people, not deported, they’re threatening to murder cops, not even arrested. Khalistani movement in Richmond where they threatened people and were openly carrying around guns nobody arrested or deported. More often times then not violent immigrants are not being deported. The riots in Calgary last year from Eritrea, nobody deported. There was even recently where a Pakistani national came to Canada in 2019 on a study permit, he’s been arrested at least 10 times, convicted of Mischief and he’s been open about his role in a foreign funded rebellion against the government of Canada. He was a serial blockader too blockaded airports and other things. He was set to be deported and the liberal government intervened last second and blocked him from being deported. I’m not even saying this guy shouldn’t be deported, however there are literally thousands of immigrants that are far more deserving of deportation then this guy, and if they’re going to deport him they should deport these others as well but they’re not and many cases defending the people

I’m a Canadian truck driver. It’s time to teach these drivers from any other country that we do have laws here. I get passed by trucks being operated by people from his country all the time in most unsafe manner. Often on hilly roads with curves and blind spots. They pull up beside you and then motion to you to slow down so they can complete the take over. How ever in the Humboldt accident I believe it was a matter of not paying attention. But blamed on sunlight blinding the driver. What ever the case was laws are laws. They are there for a reason.

I take full responsibility for what has happened. It happened because of my lack of experience," Sidhu told the court as the victims' families and friends cried, looked down or stared at him. I can't imagine what you are going through, what you've been through," he said. "I have taken the most valuable things of your life. "I will be so so so so so sorry from this day." Sidhu pleaded guilty to multiple counts of dangerous driving causing death and dangerous driving causing bodily injury. A forensic collision report found he didn't brake at the intersection of Highway 335 and 35 before the crash. So whoever here is saying that the sun blinded his eyes...the forensics reports have denied it . Sidhu even pleaded guilty that it was his careless driving. It's all over in the internet, will take less than a minute to search .

Canada lets psychopath killers roam free everyday that have intentionally killed people. Those killers are allowed to walk free among us and can legally change their name so nobody knows who they are or what they’ve done. This man made a mistake, many lives were lost , but, he has owned up to it, shown remorse and should not be deported. He didn’t use the insanity plea he choose to face it head on. He deserves to stay in Canada.

I was nearly driven into a crevasse in the Roger's pass by a Sikh trucker. It was in March after a heavy wet snowfall. It was at night and the fastest I could go was 70 km/h. I could not let him pass because the passing lanes were not plowed, The driver kept ramming into my back bumper. It was snowing. It was the middle of the night. It was a whiteout snowstorm. This went on for hours. It was terrifying.

Really? Rapists get off after 6 months. Pedophiles get off after 1 1/2 years. He did NOT do this intentionally. He is not an evil person. He will have to live with these deaths for the rest of his life. Anyone who has driven in the prairies knowns these highways go on and on and on then suddenly a stop sign in the middle of nowhere. Most people run 1 or 2 stop signs in their lifetime. It does not mean they are evil. And we want to send him to a country he was not born in? He has already suffered for 6 years with worry and shame already. Why have so little compassion? Are you perfect? People who murder in Canada don't even get 25 years. People who get behind the wheel of a vehicle, drunk out of their minds and cause a fatality, they don't get 25 years. This man did not intend to take lives. I blame his former employer for putting an inexperienced driver behind the wheel of a big rig. Companies like that are a dime a dozen, no proper training, their trucks are not maintained, they have buddies who will give anyone a commercial license.

Aight so I went to Calgary in Canada last year for a vacation. I took about 20-30 ubers in total during my trip to Calgary. Out of those 20-30 Uber trips, ATLEAST 17-20 of the drivers were Indian. And ATLEAST 15 of them drove like actual maniacs. One of the drivers literally ran a total of 10 STOP SIGNS in the span of 1 hour, and almost ran over an entire family walking over a crosswalk.. I'm not gonna state the obvious but this doesnt seem right at all.. Maybe I'm just stupid idk.

He killed 16 people, destroyed the lives of multiple others and has been housed and fed by the Canadian tax payer since he blatantly disregarded a stop sign because he had no respect or care for our laws and our citizens. I know under our legal system murderers have a right to counsel, however defending such people and crying about his problems is vile to me.
