Keep them coming. This is the most I've ever learnt about shoulder movement and mobility during the bench press in the shortest amount of time.

This is by far the best explanation of this issue I’ve seen - I have wasted a fair bit of time trying to just stay retracted the whole time and hurting my shoulders (and resulting in “shrugged” shoulders, so ruining the depression anyway). Thanks Joe!

The best fking explanation on youtube, f all of the other guys that claim they are personal trainers, meanwhile they cannot explain shi and have no actual education. Thanks man, God bless you.

Lats control the humerus and don't insert onto the scapula. Lower trap controls the scap to actually depress the shoulder. Lat engagement is easier to feel and is a byproduct of actively depressing the scap than engaging the lower trap. A strong leg drive combined with a sticky bench help depress the scap, too.
