The reason we let the house burn themselves out is it's less of a safety risk on fd and first responders. And if it's more damage then worth saving. Kinda like Totaled cars vs. Worth fixing cars if know know what I mean. That's from a texas firemens view

When you have multiple structures on fire in an urban interface like the situation you’re talking about, and you have structures that are in danger but are not on fire. Sometimes you have to let the already burning structures go and work on saving other people and property. Like you said it’s unfortunate, and said but if it’s not going to go anywhere else threaten anyone else or their property it’s just best to move on to other structures that are threatened and not yet on fire. Along with that, you have to remember if hydrants are readily available you need a water tenders (water tanker to supply water) or a drop tank (the little pool looking things that hold water for fire trucks)...sooo there is no point in wasting water on already lost property as harsh as that sounds. As firefighters we have to make those decisions the best we can and it is tough and may seem unfair but that is the beast of firefighting. Sorry for the long winded answer.

The reason is firefighters sometimes let certain homes burn is because we either have a priority somewhere else or simply because we need to save resources like if there are multiple structures on Fire we pick the one that is the easiest to save instead of wasting water on one that is already to far gone.

I'm a firefighter in north Fayette, pa and when a house or anything is on fire you got to look at risk versus reward yes it's sad but that's how it is like same thing if we have a house filled with people and our fire fighter goes down we worry about him first a normal house fire around here we use thousands of gallons of water and foam but if we roll up and the house is about gone we just keep it knocked down

Sometimes fire depts do it because the fire is so big it is hard to control so they have to let it burn down but make sure it stays at that house

Fire fighters in that area need to conserve water and resources. Firefighting is labor intensive. Insurance will cover that million dollar home to replace items but you can’t replace a human life.
