And that's the primary reason why there was so little video this year of me planting. Then there was the oil and grease from the chain on my hands stopping me from touching my camera☹ Stupid chain problem🤔 Tim, thanks for watching.🙂☕

Glad you are learning the planters. Now you can understand the relation of the tool bar gage wheels and depth setting cams. That information that gentleman sent you was a God send. The written word as they say. As far as the chain coming off if you can find them there is a mechanical device that if I remember correctly attaches to the gear shaft on the side of the planter that consists of a "flagging" device that as the shaft turns bobs up and down indicating the chain is on. They will drive you crazy looking back to see if they are all moving. I used to run them on an eight row planter. It was an early attempt at a seed "monitoring" devise. I think once you have it all figured out you will enjoy the job these planters will do.

His name is Gary Clayton and his comment is up above this one in the list of comments. The document he sent to me opened my eyes to what you were explaining once I had that picture I began to see how it worked. Johnny thank you so much for the information you gave to me making it possible for me to go down this unknown path and arrive at the solution I was Desiring. I'm going to check into this little flag thing, Dragging this planter and having a row not being planted is unacceptable. Johnny thank you for being here helping me🙂☕

I have JD, IH, Massey Ferguson, and Ford on this little farm. They all have good parts and bad parts..That Ford of yours is a swell tractor I hope lift issues are simple to fix. Your perseverance with the planter will pay off.. and.. God is good...all the time!!!

That little Ford tractor of mine has its good days and its bad days. I know that's got to sound strange but it relates to what I'm actually doing with the tractor. The Ford hydraulic pressure is not as high as that little John Deere 1020 and will not create as much lift pressure. The lift on the Ford will not come up fast enough to snap the row markers into the locked position. They work real good on that little John Deere once cousin gets the chain length dialed in. Thank you very much for being here watching videos supporting this channel. And yes I agree 100% God He is always good, the same yesterday the same today the same tomorrow always good. 🙏🙏🙏🙂

Brother, I love your channel. I like you southern accent, the old tractors and implements, and the fact you smoke stoggies. BUT....Your videos are not long enough. Dog gone it, I get involved with watching and you explaining and BAM it stops. I know that editing is a pain in the patookus, but you have a few viewers who would love to see some longer vids, even if its just you driving through the fields. Heck, from what you've shown your fields are on the smallish size which makes for an intimate setting. Walk around the fields and show them off like a prized milking cow at the county fair. Lets see how high your crops have grown, lets see the ground, how your keeping the weeds from the edge of the fields, you tinkering with other implements. Man, you've got a lot of knowledge about breaking ground, seeding, fertilizing, etc.....lets see it. Love you, Brother and I how your crops grow tall and are very bountiful!! God bless.

Herb, that is a fact and now the next thing I need to gain an understanding for is how to adjust the clutch on my 4020 tractor. I do not have enough free play at the top of the pedal and fortunately cousin showed me there's still about a half inch of adjustment left in the slot so this may be something I can adjust once I figure out exactly how. Thanks for being here watching supporting this channel. 🙂☕

A good way to make sure your planter is putting out seed at the end when you turn around look and you will see seed on top of the ground where you picked up if not you got a problem that’s my monitor
@SoybeanFarmer3300
@SoybeanFarmer3300 2 жыл бұрын
You are correct I've noticed that seed at the end row some of the rows are kind of long and I'd like to have a more confident feeling I hadn't just left an empty unplanted row. It was an outside unit I was having the difficulty with so there's more than likely places out there where I've got a 48 inch wide space between the rows. We'll find out after it sprouts what we got. 🤔

You know when you were saying I asked God and I was thinking he was going to tell you look it up on the Internet lol but I’m glad you got it all working it might be an interesting project this winter just to disassemble it clean it all up maybe paint it so it’s all good for next year

I was pushed for time because of the rain that was scheduled to arrive so I did not do the cleanup job on these parts I really wanted to do so now that we are out of the jam and finished planting for the year 2022 crop the idea of going back and taking this apart then really cleaning those parts good, polishing them so they would take a nice smooth coat of protective paint is sounding real good to me. Thanks for being here watching supporting this channel my friend 🙂☕

It is a lot easier to get technical support on current technology than it is to get support for something that's 53 years old. For example the clutch on the 4020 is engaging at the top of the pedal, not enough free play my first thought was my clutch is wore out so I called John Deere looking to get an idea of what it would cost to have them replace the clutch they have still not called me back and that was 4 days ago. But praise God I mentioned it to cousin and he showed me how I still got about a half inch of adjustment left now we just have to figure out how to do it. Always nice to find you here in the comments AJ🙂☕

The jury is still out on that and since we have finished planting for this year a little more experimentation is going to be required next year to make that determination but I can say at this point I believe I have nailed the depth issue. Beans planted last Saturday were up yesterday on Wednesday that's about the normal amount of time when the depth is correct.
