Deputy PM Angela Rayner Reveals Plans to Tackle the Housing Crisis | This Morning

It’s been a month since she helped secure Labour’s landslide victory in the general election, and Angela Rayner is already making big changes. After announcing new rules will be put in place to boost the number of affordable homes in the UK, she’s joining us in the studio to explain her plans. We’ll also be discussing her unconventional route into politics, how it feels to be one of the most powerful women in Westminster, and the criticism over her green suit.

In Battersea and Nine Elms in London- UK built 200 000 extra apartments on the past 5 years. The starting studio 45m goes for 600 000£ minimum. All of it is already bought by Saudi and Emirate Citizens. You walk from Battersea to Knisbridge- 99% of pedestrians are from Saudi Arabia or Emirates - shopping between Sloane Street and Battersea. No one there is local.

When you say "everywhere", I take it you actually mean Southport. Then, can you explain what a Government could do to prevent knife crime, when almost every home in the country has at least one knife in its kitchen that is capable of killing somebody in the wrong hands?

Not sure what you mean about "Crime Crisis". Considering violent crime is on a steady decline when looking at the figures for England and Wales on a quarterly basis as well as year-on-year, I'd say our society is actually not that bad.

@@ukmaxi I'm not an expert or looking into the figures. I only have to look at the news nationally and locally and see the majority of the articles on some kind of stabbing or attack. There is also local events of a similar nature (not knife crime though), that have happened recently too, and I don't see the police or the government trying to prevent any of these things beforehand. I'm not saying that Crime is at an all time high, but it can still be a crisis, or a problem that needs prevention.

Labour's building programme will see huge swathes of our countryside, food production land and habitat concreted over by major corporations (how much do they give to Labour in donations?) with their poorly built, ticky tacky houses. This will increase our carbon emissions (when we are going net zero), we will have to import more food, water attenuation issues, more land fills and reservoirs will be needed, more pressure on local infrastructure, more light pollution etc. etc. The agricultural value of the land needs to be considered before being built on. If Covid19 has taught us anything, it is the need for food security, for now and future generations. Is there an end in site, a plan, or is it just build, build build? When the main stream media, greens and left, all obsessed with oil, finally wake up to this environmental damage, it will be too late.

This once green and pleasant land is to be now soulless estates. I bet this will be depressing. We really must consider our environment and our lush landscape with its poor endangered wildlife and our people, their happiness is paramount. Why cannot redundant shops and office blocks be utilised and our migrant crisis be tackled? Labour is not proving popular as it is. Our very existence works in sympathy with nature. We cannot thrive on concrete, cannot eat it and most of us dread the feeling of claustrophobia it brings. Perhaps the new homes aught to be more kit style, less stark, less grey concrete and monotonous. I am not surprised riots are happening. We are human, not sheep to be penned and exploited!

In our town we already have that each new area has to have a dedicated Dr and dentist and shopping area play fields ect. The rules they’re talking about putting in will remove some of the protections we enjoy. A lot of it is up to local councils and how they dictate the housing and the expectations that builders need to meet

Public body or not, working with privatised companies will not make us self-sufficient and won’t solve the issue of being forced to throw money to the energy tycoons controlled by OPEC+, which is larger than Putin - the government have to invest in technology for new and the way forward being renewable or non-fossil fuel energies - we need new suppliers that should be set up to serve like a building society or mutual.
