Also, let us not forget that that 27% of pensioners have an overall asset base of over £1m, and they are by far the wealthiest demographic. Stopping a non-means tested payment to people who, by and large, don't need it is absolutely the right thing to do. As is setting up an inquiry into the scandal of PPE contracts worth billions being fraudulently handed out to their mates by the previous government.

The Tories didn't take it away - this has been the case since its introduction in 1948. The difference you refer to stems from the equalities act where between 2010 and 2018 the state pension age for women rose from 60 to 65, so that it became the same as that for men. Between 2018 and 2020 it then rose from age 65 to 66 for both men and women.

@@BulletPointFitnessPodcast lol... You're obviously far too young to appreciate that this is exactly what a Labour government is like. I've lived through the Labour governments of the 60's, 70's and then the Blair/Brown years. And do believe me when I say that this guy Starmer is going to be even worse for the country than any of his predecessors. The last 14 years have been bad, but this lot are going to be even worse. Just look at the way the Pensioners are being dealt with - these are people who have worked all their lives AND paid their taxes and National Insurance Stamps. They should now expect to be looked after in old age. NOT put in a place where they could actually die. And there will be more to come. This bunch have lost all understanding of the "Working Class people", there're champagne socialists and have no allegiance to the people that have actually put them in power. And remember, although they have the seats, their vote percentage is quite low. The way they are going on they'll lose the "Red Wall" to Reform UK as the months and next few years go on. Crazy idea, maybe the MPs salary should be tied to the minimum wage with subsidies that are strictly monitored to only be used for work purposes. See how easy they find to manage it. If they need accommodation because their constituency is far away, that’s fine if that’s funded. But nothing fancy just a basic flat with the essentials and that’s it. Just to highlight what the PM said: He had "no choice" but to cut winter fuel payments to pensioners to 'save the economy ' BUT The UK must prioritise and give Ukraine money to "keep our freedoms" and we need to keep funding other foreign aid. And of course MPs need free tickets to gigs.
