WTH???? I grew up with a number of classmates from the Marine base of all nationalities and played sports with them in the playgrounds, courts and haven't had problems with classmates or neighbors. During my years working DOD, I've worked with so many active service men & women of all backgrounds, and if they've gotten that far after basic training, they aren't untrained recruits, they've earned their experiences, nor is he a youngster and hasn't experienced life or hard work. These officers giving the back deputy sheriff harassment is out of line, especially in the law enforcement line of duty. They don't deserve to be employed.

Protect whistle blowers who help make sure work places evolve with the times. Systems that are meant to help society, can't risk normalizing inhumane behaviors that become part of organizational culture. That's evolution in the backwards sense: it's regression. Hypocrisy in practicing aloha, especially in a state that touts humanistic approaches, is gaslighting in a societal context. Actions and rhetoric need to match. That's how you call out abuse. Those who are intimidated from speaking up about inhumane behavior and culture, and who intuitively fear speaking up, signal an insidiousness in organizational culture that requires communication, an opportunity for repair and growth, and transparency so a workplace fosters, nurtures, and facilitates a labor force that finds pride, let alone feels safe, in working again. The same standards that protect all workers from bullying and intimidation in all examples. Mahalo for the follow up and coverage.

His career in law enforcement is over, even though he's the victim in this, his fellow officers will always treat him as a snitch. They'll have to work with him, but they won't give him any backup in any dangerous situations.

Because we're all mixed, Hawaii is the most ethnically diverse place on earth. Everyone pokes fun at each other growing up, and it's harmless and in good nature. You really only do it when you're in a brotherhood setting, among friends, at the same substation (for police/firefighters/ems), at the gym, etc. mainlander not used to it and want to be victim.

It’s Hawaii dude, things are all connected here and corruption is rumored to be rampant- I wonder why. Oh plus he’s Black. Wouldn’t you be concerned for your safety? I sure would be. Get this man paid and train people better. They’d not dare do this to a white man, would they? And if they treat a subordinate this way, what about when they come across a Black civilian needing help? Stop the nonsense , everyone deserves dignity, aloha and respect

I used to work for the Sheriff's Department DCCB....good Braddahs, even better loyalty. we all tease each other about our different cultures, beliefs pretty much everything under the sun it helps lighten the mood during the shift, being a law enforcement officer you got to have thick skin I know both deputies that were booked and arrested, if Bradda cannot take one joke from those two guys, he ain't going to make it dealing with the locals on the street and the rest of the public......time to find a new career

Sad to say that we have ha’ole hatred pretty deep in Hawaii and people still get along . But we have one “African American “ employee on the job and all of a sudden there are a large group of local sheriffs that are life threatening bullies? It doesn’t add up. Cultural differences and even ribbing and teasing are part of the culture in Hawaii. Like it or not thats how it is. If this man was a solid sheriff and he was trusted and respected by his fellow officers, then I’m sure there would not be an issue. I personally deal with racism all the time in Hawaii. I don’t take it personal when the word ha’ole is said. I don’t cry ‘hate crime” when ever someone has an issue. Also, I’m Jewish. So that means I need to watch out for people of ALL colors who hate Jewish people. But calling out people for hate crimes would be endless. BTW, how many other officers in Hawaii are ‘African Americans “ and is this also their experience too?
