a lot of dueling rules were like that, you can keep attacking until your opponent drops his sword. and just like shown you can grapple but the retainers will break the fight and have you reset if it gets into a wrestling match.

@@bypyros1933I would assume this being a fight without much (any?) protective clothing, and with real rapiers, makes participants act a bit more... worried about their own and each other's safety than when casually sparring with protective gear on? I can imagine that changes your technique a bit (unless if it is a very well pre-choreographed fight) if you don't actually wanna kill each other.
