We used to get our TV from DER when I was a kid. I remember once when I was about 8 years old, I drew a picture of the DER van whilst the engineer was making one of his regular visits to fix our TV set. The following month, my drawing was printed in the DER magazine. Thanks for posting the advert- I had looked on youtube for it before without success.

Dad worked for DER in the 70's and 80's as a tv repairman, it's no wonder his back suffered lifting all them old tv's!

My dad used to work for Radio Rentals, which was also part of TTR, which DER, as you probably know, was part of too, he was with RR from 1973 to 1985. He also had a base model 1.1 Escort estate for calls and private use. He sometimes had a red DER Escort van to use as well.

I worked for DER in brum. I had a red escort van with passenger seat removed. we couldn't use it for our own use. But we all did. remember the extra door locks and the plug in immobiliser

Amazing that they used to pay high class hookers for the the staff to "use". That's the 70s for you. 😂

What year(s) did you work there David. I was a rep/installer for both stores (not at the same time though).

Ian mmm, 87-90 give or take a few months. Did you live with young kids whose mum had left you with?
@davids7367 жыл бұрын
Ian my boss in Borehamwood was Julie, and the Watford boss Debbie lived above the BW shop. I think Edgeware boss was called Jim - raging alcoholic. Massive drinking culture at DER. Lunchtime piss-ups were common place

That's not me you are thinking of but we are in the same time frame. I started in 87 at the Colindale Service Centre.

Ian Then I'm sure our paths would have crossed. Did you ever go to the DER piss-ups?

Happy days I have to say. Come and play, think I've still got the red button badge somewhere. Around a million renters couldn't have been wrong, could they?

Totally disagree with the comment about service and quality, my parents rented the Teletext tv, and Videostar VCR models for years with no issues. Thinking back i think the only time there was an issue was when i had a thing for shoving Club wrappers in the video slot!

Does anyone remember Ken Smiff (as he pronounced it) an arial rigger that (believe it or not) ended up as their marketing manager at Apex House?

I remember Ken Smith I worked at Apex House from 1984 when I took over the Service Director job from Ken Peers. Richard Spragge was the Managing Director at the time. Happy days :)

We had a DER TV & VCR back in the early 80s. The VCR was a bog standard top-loader model, the remote control had to be plugged in with a cable! I remember one time when the VCR went kaputt and we were given a top-of-the-range model as a temporary replacement. This thing "had more buttons than the flight deck on Concorde", as my dad used to day... :)

As a rental company, they were rubbish, rented a video recorder from them, had nothing but trouble with them, engineer confirm fault, shop would not, no wonder, they went out of business.
