Progressive, avant-garde black metal experimentalists DER WEG EINER FREIHEIT have never stopped smashing through the boundaries of the genre they’ve called home since forming in early 2009. And with 2021 welcoming the release of fifth album, Noktvrn, the Germans are looking to expand the minds and perspectives of their ever-increasing fanbase, similar to how they pushed themselves in every element of the new album’s creation. The album will be released on November 19, 2021 via Season of Mist.

"Dont click it!" said my tech death brain. "Its just some black metal. You never liked any of it besides Imperial Triumphant - YT is always wrong with recommendations, remember?". F it, its 2 am and its not like i got anything better to do. Lets just check the first track... 48 mins later I'm pretty blown away I must say. Happy i stayed for the ride. Edit 1 day later: what a weird timing, went to a beatdown/deathcore show the day after I wrote this and found out that DWEF are playing the SAME venue the next day. So yea ofc I went. On my way home now with the LP in my hands. They are fantastic live.

So'n Unsinn :) Na im Ernst, ich habe mich da halbwegs vorurteilsarm durchgequält und fand's weder avantgardistisch, noch irgendwie "frisch" oder großartig "anders". Das ist nicht meins und nach dem Hören liebe ich dieses Album zu genau 0%. Das ist nicht schlimm, ich kann es hören, ohne leiden zu müssen, was aber nicht der Anspruch ist, den ich an Musik, die ich lieben könnte, habe. Dennoch werde ich kommenden Donnerstag in Schlotheim evtl. nochmal reinhören, vielleicht blasen die Herren mich ja live schier von den Füßen, auch wenn ich nun nicht mehr so vorurteilsarm herangehen kann. Hat's alles schon gegeben. Schaun mer mal, denn: Wo die Liebe hinfällt... English translation: Let's see :)

Der Satz: "Erdrückt vom Gewicht unserer unteilbaren Schätze" in Monument hat mich umgehauen. Liest sich, wie ein Gefühl, dass ich oft in mir trage.. "Gegen das Licht" hat mir ebenso die Tränen in die Augen getrieben. Ich habe gerade die Vinyl bestellt. Ihr habt noch mal ne Schippe auf eine kaum zu toppende VorgängerPlatte draufgelegt. Das ist ein umwerfend tolles Album.
