I want it. Can Am guy here but this is what I’ve been waiting for. For me specifically, I want the Northstar. No dust, no sweat, no frozen face, all while going where I want to on trails. The HVAC on a trail ready machine is the biggest draw for me.

One thing that bugs me about these new vehicles is how expensive they’re getting. Some of them cost as much as car. Not just Polaris, all brands.

Nice overlander, kind of what I've been going for outfitting my Maverick Sport. Love that cab with the back windows over-trunk for winter/storage. Def a good niche market to attack, hopefully lots of options to add/delete, not just a few packages. The pic Polaris has with the winter tracks looks amazing.

From a mechanics standpoint, these machines will not hold up nearly as well as a jeep ever could. I know that on my Polaris turbo S, at about 5000 miles or less I will need to replace my propeller shaft and or u-joints. I will also need need to replace my axles. Probably wheel bearings, and many other things. All of this under 5000 miles. The only way I would ever consider one of these, is if it was built to last. They are absolutely not built to last
@peruser155 Жыл бұрын
Never have been. I'll admit I bought one of the first 50" machines years ago for the trails specific to them, but since then, I just don't understand the hype anymore. Basically a cheaply built Jeep, but without the comfort, capability, and longevity. I don't get it.
@smcloar Жыл бұрын
Going to be popular. Price will go up as dealers add more and more to try and get ya financing big amounts. By far the overlander is my dream rig. Not sure I can justify 57k. It's a little too close to the jeep price. And yes I understand the differences between the two. However slow the jeep goes, it's built like a tank compared to the plastic fit and Finnish of these rigs.

Agree with everything you said except "going to be popular." This concept just might be the beginning of the end of the "side by side." People are bound to eventually catch on to this scam...

Honda Pioneer 1000-5 trail edition had this niche before. They are cheaper, Lighter. But probably Not as nice, nor big as the expedion. But same concept.

It’s not marketed for the dunes, but with HCR and a turbo anything is possible.

Wasnt gonna comment but here goes anyway: am I in the minority when I think these are a waste of money? I get that its your money and you could have a big ol bonfire fed with dollar bills and its none of my business. But is that really it? Just a wasteful luxury? Extra money burning a hole and it was this or an exotic sports car? Is there something practical I am missing about these things? I mean, who pays Jeep (or many other highway friendly rigs that are very capable off road) prices for something NOT as capable overall and thinks thats a good thing? I know some of you live in areas of the country that makes these more practical than a Jeep, F150, or even a damn Subaru, right? You must. Because somebody keeps buyin em, or they wouldnt keep building them. I live in the Rocky Mountain region. The trails and roads LEGAL to drive anything on, can be navigated with almost any stock 4wd street rig. Some require a small lift or better tires, but you get the idea. And if you need more than a standard 4x4 rig with decent tires, then you arent staying on legal roads and trails. Sure hope that isnt the case. Id also rather be able to also run errands in the town down the interstate, or tow a boat or horse trailer in comfort, in addition to my "off road" excursion the day before. To each his own but I seriously cannot see this fad lasting...people are eventually going to catch on.
@evoskimo3273 Жыл бұрын
I thought the same thing until I drove them. It didn't seem like they made much sense but they truly are much more capable than you think. I agree its not cheap but it is much more capable off-road than a Jeep or any other road-going vehicle. If you want to understand, you would have to ride with someone that knows how to drive it, not your grandma. The day you take it home, it will handle much more than a Jeep off the lot
@peruser155 Жыл бұрын
@evoskimo3273 oh I've rented many of them, from 2 seater to 4. I've also owned not only the first 50" from Polaris but 3 other 4 seaters since then. After 20 years I can honestly say that my F150 4x4 with Nittos does everything I ever did in those except the 50" trails, which it pains me to say are diminishing rapidly anyway. In my mountainous part of the world, the agencies don't want them. They want you to access with your street legal 4x4 vehicle and then get out and hike. I suppose if you live near the dunes, or an area with many muddy trails, they would make more sense (due to lightness). Around the northwest and Rocky Mountains, however, machines like this one just don't make sense to me and never will.
@peruser155 Жыл бұрын
@evoskimo3273 I especially get a kick out of the guy that tows his $45000 machine on a $9000 trailer to the base of the mountain with his $90000 Ford Raptor just to drive the side by side "around" on the SAME roads that the Raptor would shine at. Talk about an absolute waste, and complicating something that should be a simple no brainer...

So, A Jeep They made a Jeep. Why not just buy a Jeep instead. Be cheaper than these outrageous rigs.
@DerangedOffRoad Жыл бұрын
In the vid, Joe covers that. A Jeep can’t go 40 in rough terrain and is to wide in certain areas.
@dannydeshler4327 Жыл бұрын
@@DerangedOffRoad maybe so...But how in the world can this thing cost $60K? It's not a Jeep, it's not road worthy, it does everything well, but nothing great. Suspension is mediocre at best, 30" tires, stamped metal frame, etc. I like the concept...price is ridiculous.
@DerangedOffRoad Жыл бұрын
@@dannydeshler4327 well until you sit in it and drive nobody really knows about the suspension. Price point is always the topic because all of this stuff cost so much. People have a need for this over a Jeep, just like people have a need for a Jeep over this. For myself and overlanding, I would go this route over a Jeep all day long. The two just can’t be compared in any shape or form. -Garrett
@dannydeshler4327 Жыл бұрын
@@DerangedOffRoad the Fox shocks they have listed are nothing new and mid pack compared to the suspension found on other top end, less expensive RZR's. It will not ride as well as many will hope. This thing may be great for riding out West on huge tracts of BLM land...it won't do as well on the rocky, muddy, wet trails of the Eastern US. But hey, whatever blows your skirt up.
@stump3514 Жыл бұрын
Buy an older TJ or LJ Jeep mod it up nice, give it the same level of shock package as a side by side and now you can bomb around on rough terrain at 40mph. You could do all that for cheaper than buying an expedition, plus with a Jeep it’s road legal already and has a proper transmission.
