Never take a loan out on a toy!! Unless you know damn well you can turn it for profit 😉 Buying new is the worst investment!! Minute you drive off the lot you lost money 💰💸 When you save and pay cash $$ you will enjoy that toy way more than your neighbors driving on debt. Believe me I love toys! And I have a bunch. But I paid my house off first and then got into toys. That way if I get hurt 🤕 playing I don't have to worry about my family being left with debt!!

No question the market is changing - higher prices, higher interest rates makes it less affordable to more folks. The used market is in for a major correction - as people are forced to sell or simply give back to the dealer and the dealers start discounting to simply move units off the floor - it will be a lot easier to buy from a dealer than a third party. Most UTV's are financed - so if you have a nice machine with lots of mods, you are not going to get you money out of it - so if you want to sell or more important if you "need" to sell - do it ASAP - as the market is going to continue to move away from the sellers market of the past few years to a buyers market. Cash will be king - and if you have it you will be able to buy super nice, upgraded, lightly used units in the coming months for a bargain.

I was at our localKawasaki dealer the other day. They had 8 KRX two seaters sitting on the floor. They definitely aren’t moving like they used to. They also had dozens of high dollar KTM, GAS GAS and Husky dirt bikes sitting there unsold. Six months ago if they had bikes in that shop they all had sold tags on them. Two of those were sold.

Cost to keep up on the hobby is quickly becoming a strain as well. I think some have taken into consideration that after the investment of 25k into a machine, 50k in a toy hauler, 75k in a 1 ton to tow it... Adds up quick.. Now factor in the 1k min. you'll spend in fuel/food/camping spot etc... You quickly come to realize that time and money might be better spent elsewhere...

@@Built05STI I was lucky, I sold DURING Covid and made out like a bandit. I've always had multiple interests so for me it wasn't too hard to sell and make a ton of cash knowing damn well I'd end up completing the circle and going right back to it with a new machine, new build, etc etc... Now the key for me and what my old man always taught me was "Always own your toys outright, their is nothing worse than having a payment sit in your garage broken". The way we play so hard it really does make sense and although it took me 3+ years to buy/sell/trade/flip my way up to what I wanted it was even that much more gratifying when I got those stacks in 2021. :)

The biggest original reason for a utv purchase was the affordability compared to a jeep. That is not the way it is anymore. The options available have shifted the market especially in the high performance machines. The high performance prices will stay high but the price of the utility machines have to come down or the manufacturers have to figure out how to survive with a smaller customer base.

2008 was the housing crisis. 2023 is going to be the credit crisis. Was personally saying this back in summer 2020. I think ALOT of people are going to be looking at the payments they have on stuff and be dumping them. I cannot believe that people take out 7+ year loans on toys such as UTVs, boats, campers, etc. It's completely insane that people are doing this, even crazier that banks are able to actually let loans go that long on these assets. Not to mention the income verification at dealers is almost nonexistent.

Young parents, if its a utv, atv, boat, camper,or any other expensive toy, just remember, don't jeopardize the future of your children with expensive things that you will only use a few times a year. I wonder how many people bought utvs just because they wanted to buy something? Situations such as a pandemic are very depressing and I believe a lot of people were looking for anything to make them feel better. A new "toy" is a way to do that. But the novelty of those situations fades. There are buyers such as me and thousands of others who genuinely love trail riding. I know a guy who bought a decked out Rmax over a year ago and has a whopping 50 miles on it. I logged 100 miles my first trail ride. I would wager his ride will be up for sale in less than a year.

Sales dropped because there is no reason for a SXS to cost as much as a vehicle that has power windows, locks, windows all around the vehicle, heat, A/C airbags, radio, defrost, air bags, windshield wipers, Cruze control , GPS, anti lock breaks, emergency break. A SxS dealer will tell you they cost so much because all the technology that is put into them. The truth is there is less technology, I mean a lot less technology put into a SxS than a everyday vehicle.

I definitely believe there’s going to be a crash. Many people will be doing anything to get rid of their vehicles that they never really wanted. I am currently selling a used Artic Wildcat. I know it’s a good idea for me to get rid of it soon before the market is flooded. I would rather take a little less now then I have two side-by-side‘s sitting in my driveway. For somebody getting into the sport I would highly suggest buying a used one in good condition. This way if it doesn’t work out well for you you made a small investment and you can probably get most of your money back. This is where most people make the biggest mistake. Buy everything new and put it on endless payments. When the economy takes a dump the first thing that goes is toys

I totally get why you would decide to sell…but when there is blood in the water, the sharks will want to feed. As I was adding mods to my buggy, there came a time when I had to consider if it was work making the modification; knowing that I had already invest to much into a vehicle. I knew the. That I had already invested too much into my buggy, and there was no way I would get even a fraction…of my total investment…back out. For me I had to have a very honest conversation (when nobody was watching) about the reasons I was adding the modifications. There were basically 2 reasons for every modification. The first reason dated back to my old Harley days, and there was, and is, a deep desire to individualize “my” buggy. I wanted certain modifications done because nobody else had them…or very few people had them. As I look back, they all served a real purpose, but they also made my buggy standout. The second reason revolved around the idea that I’m a partial paraplegic, and most of the time I’m raging in the desert…I’m alone. I approached this “honest” assessment of myself not because I see myself as a victim…I don’t…but I recognize and acknowledge the dangers and challenges I could face alone. So, as an example, I always have multiple sources of communication in my buggy; Cell phone; citizen band radio; hand held aviation radio; and a permanently mounted aviation radio, which is to be mounted in the future. The last two radios allow me to talk to pilots at 15,000 feet…on Tucson Approach, should the worst happen. I recognize that everyone does not need the same number of communication options…my lifestyle…my options. All of that crap has led me to respond to your comment about deciding to sell your UTV. I have already made a conscious decision that if I decided to sell…I would accept a fair price, but I will “never” give away my buggy; allowing someone else to reap the benefits of my efforts and or decisions. In fact, I would take nothing, and have my buggy crushed before I would agree a lopsided sale. Moreover, I’m more likely to give it away, and rob a dealership of a potential sale, before I was financially raped while trading my buggy. So, I understand your decisions; we are just approaching that question from different sides. Your thoughts…

I pay cash for my SXS's, I sold my 2021 Pro XP 4 Ultimate last spring for 42K and turned around and purchased my new 2022 Turbo R 4 Ultimate for 38.8K . As most of you know, the Turbo R has a ton of upgrades over the Pro XP. I only did this because of the inflated values of used equipment over the last year or two. In a normal market, I would have sold my Pro XP for 10K less and bought my Turbo R for 3K less. The US dollar is going to start to fall which will be great for stock prices and we will move towards a more balanced economy. New vehicle inventory will start to build and this craziness will stop for the most part. The next sales person who says taking orders for new vehicles and waiting 6 months is the new norm (and paying full MSRP or more), needs to be hung from the highest tree. That type of sales cycle will be history, and only discussed as part of history -- a thing of the past!

I hope that it does crash and crashes hard and then burns. Screw the OEM’s and their way overpriced UTV’s. UTV’s killed the sport quad and have done nothing positive for the ATV market. The OEM’s are putting all their R&D into UTV’s at the the expense of their other off-road product lines. I got caught up in the UTV hype, bought a RZR in ‘16 and that first summer it was really fun to rally around. Then each summer after that I used it less and less because driving a car gets boring pretty fast. I sold it last summer and was never so happy to get rid of an expensive toy. That stupid thing was a major hassle to store, pain to work on, easily damaged if I were to have rolled it or put it on its side and finally expensive to repair had I broken anything by driving it too hard which was way too easy to do. I bought a brand new dirt bike with the money and had a ton of money left over as dirt bikes are so much cheaper than a UTV. That RZR was one of the few machines I ever had that I didn’t feel a single regret from selling it. Never again will, I buy another UTV.

I fell for the same SXS hype! I bought a 2021KRX1000 new and sold it 3 months after purchase...Why...because for me, SXS's are not really that much fun to drive! How many times can you drive down dirt roads and trails and not get bored? So next, when you start to take more risk (because the thrill is starting to wane) by driving your SXS on more challenging terrain, that's where SXS's can be both exciting, expensive and hopefully not "dangerous"! I just never felt connected to the off-road driving experience when driving my KRX like I do when I'm carving turns on my KQ750! NEVER again will I ever even think about buying another SXS!
