Do you put a mark on the reamer to show you how deep you need to go on the pegs?

Yes, I usually put a wrap of painter's tape around the reamer so I can keep them all the same.

Wittner pegs make a violin more valuable to the player, but less valuable to the buyer.

I won't disagree with you. It is a serious de ision to install them.

What size pegs did you use?

Sorry, I can't remember exactly, but I think it was the bigger size... 8.6? Their website shows how to measure to pick the correct pegs.

Installing the Wittner Pegs is not done until you glue the peg to the peg box. If you do not do this, the peg will not hold under the string tension.

Wittier pegs if fitted correctly should never be glued. Knilling/perfect pitch pegs may need a small amount but not Wittner.

I'm no genius but the last ebony fingerboard you were working on it seems like you should have filled it in with a mixture of sawdust and epoxy or something so you didn't change the thickness of it and all the rest of it. And then sanded it down. And with all the work you're putting into this Old Violin and then putting on geared pegs and changing the ratio of 1 to 30 you might as well have bought $100 Cecilio and upgraded it with your $40 bridge and your D'Addario Strings and all the rest of it. here insulting people who own and love and upgrade other brands not nice
