His voice was that of the world. Ragin always gave us a powerful voice with huge resonance. If he had made his debut 15 to 20 years later, far more people would know him than they do now. It's very sad.

To the staunch critics (one in particular) please remember that D.L.R.'s performances are no longer to be judged as in a genre in which such wok was considered a product of the wealthy, but rather, can now - given evolution - be real, emotional and quite human (not to say the castrati were not). If you own people, judge them then... but not this person's wonderful work.

It sounds to me like he is sick here rather than that he is losing his voice. One: because he is one of my most favorite countertenors and the thought that he is losing his voice saddens me and I refuse to believe it. And two: I listened to a recording of 'Alto Giove' from this same program. His voice cracked during a the long Aaaaaaaaaaalto Giove introduction. This seems to me more like someone who is sick. Anyone else noticed that? Since his voice does sound so weak here.

I've heard M. Lee Ragin directed by René Jacobs, singing "Flavio" in the small opera Garnier in Monte Carlo, about twenty years ago. At this time, the was already not very strong, specially compared to Gloria Banditelli , in the same production. But what I hear in this video is very sad. A weak voice without any colour. He still possesses the coloratura technical but the voice is worn out.
