Derek was 1 of the best faceoff men in the league. He shadowed all the big scorers like Beliveau, Hull and Howe. I loved watching him and Eddie Westphal on the penalty kill.

I grew up in Brooklyn N.Y. a Ranger fan with my dad being a Ranger fanatic !!! From the mid 60's through the 70's the best games for the both of us, be it on the radio or TV was Bruin games. We LOVED hating the Bruins when they play the Rangers but always watched and cheered them on when playing any other hockey team...yes we were Bruin fans because they deserved our respect.

The Turk, My all time favorite Bruin next to Bobby Orr ! Great stick handler and always threat for a shorthanded goal. Man I loved those years of the Bruins.

My heroes as a kid, years later I played in golf ProAms with him and Bobby Orr and other Boston greats. Meaning the same tournament-not personally. Longest drive hole I thought I was a contender one year-we get down to my ball and see the marker about 15yds ahead. Derek had had one or both knees replaced recently (like weeks), is probably 20 years older than me, and won it. Humbling but awesome.

i was a shuttle car driver for Avis and had to give Derek a ride from Park Sq to the Airport. He was very cool and offered me a few lines of coke. It was an exciting ride and we were non stop blabbering all the way. He was a lot of fun.

@@km11wpg Well done, Derek. Orr was pretty good but don't you think Bourque was in the same category ? Bourque spent less time in the penalty box and didn't fight as much as Orr. And yet his team was more or less as successful as Orr's Bruins in the regular season only. Of course the Edmonton Oilers had something to say about the Bourque Bruins when they met them in the 1988 and 1990 Cup Finals.

@@hwy2065 Good for Bobby Orr and Derek Sanderson ! I'm helping people understand that Wayne Gretzky was BETTER than Bobby Orr. But so many people refuse to acknowledge the truth because the truth hurts doesn't it ? Ask anyone who was at Boston Garden in the 1988 and 1990 Cup Final. I wouldn't be surprised that many people WISHED for that power failure in the 1988 Cup Final simply because the Oilers were the greatest ! Correct me if I'm wrong. I don't need to know everyone to know that inside so many people there is this evil rush to hurt/hate the enemy.
