Thank you SO much for all the amazing comments this past month. It's really interesting and encouraging to hear back from you all and I hope that you will join me (in spirit) as I walk the length of Ireland for the next five weeks - starting in a few days time :)

I’ve had that tent for a couple of years now and never knew the cross-pole goes over the top of the central pole. Game changer! Thanks Derek 👏

Hi Derek, it’s a great tent and I have a lot of faith in its capabilities ie thunderstorms. I have one now to replace my faithful hubba nx. A few things I found with this tent. Buy a msr groundsheet and it not only protects the floor but if you rig it correctly you can rig the fly only and use as ultra lightweight tent or rig in rain then put up inner tent last to keep it dry. Can also derig in reverse this way and pack inner dry if raining when leaving camp. I also sometimes stow poles separately and the tent packs down much better. Safe travels!

👍 I only sussed taking it down in the rain this week 🙌 & also yes i can get the tent down to an 8L size package inside my bag & store the poles outside. Such a great tent

Very nice review. The cross-pole on top! Supertip. This afternoon we have set up our new tent, and we asked ourselves why it was difficult to get it fine in the middle of the tent. The cross-pole on top, that's the thing 😊 Thanks a lot from the Netherlands. Thanks Pia and Martin

Best tent still IMO, I ordered my second one last week after 5 years use and had to scrap it because my bike fell on it and put a hole in the outside and inside tent. You feel really safe in this tent, and it has good ventilation. They should upgrade it with 2 zippers instead of 1 because the corner can't be unzipped with 1 hand and that is really irritating after years of use.

Hi Derek, I understood you had used Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL 2 as well. Im going to choose either this or the Hubba Hubba NX 2 for personal use alone. Would you say Hubba is a little more sturdy and worth it? Did you apply sealant to the stitched seams? I find Big Agnes Copper on first place on many reviews, with Hubba a little or close behind, but on a personal note (Im 193cm tall) I feel I have more room in the Hubba and if its sturdier I dont mind the weight being a little bigger. In Norway nobody has tested the Big Agnes but Hubba is a little more known. Maybe because we need some more protection..? I would love an answer if you have the time :D

Derek, thanks for popping up on my feed today! Great review but really as an Englishman who’s lived in Derry for 25 years I’m keen to hear how you find it in our wonderfully inconsistent Irish climate. I’ve heard about issues in high winds with this tent folding in on itself so keen to know how you get on with it. I’m loving to dual entrance and height of this tent which is why I’m considering it. On another note you’ve a bloody great channel I’ve been watching it all morning thanks, really refreshing content.
@DerekCullenOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
haha thank you Darren, I appreciate the kind words! Yeah I have the very same questions: Will it perform in strong winds/rain and will find out over the next 5 weeks. I used a Big Agnes Copper Spur UL2 for many years and this was a competitor to the Hubba Hubba. I wasn't comfortable using the BA in really bad weather which was one reason why I made the switch. Anyway, let's see how it goes ;)
@narmstrong693 жыл бұрын
I’ve seen that the high wind instability is because people are putting up the tent with that central support bar underneath the main bar. It’s mentioned by Derek when he’s setting it up and I’ve seen it on another video. Apparently it’s very stable when setup correctly.

Derek how receptive are farmers in our dear country to wild camping, myself and the lads used to do a fair bit in manor Kilbride or cavan but we were ran a few times.? Maybe due to others leaving a mess prior or acting the jack while on said lands. I'd love to bring my daughters wild camping but fear we'd be kicked off during the night?

@frugihoyi2 жыл бұрын
I can't really see how you're holding the flysheet down. Are you attaching the flysheet corners to the pegs you put in the ground? It doesn't seem like a good idea because if the pegs slip and come up from the ground, then the flysheet is compromised. But yesterday I tried to set this up for the first time in a different way and it didn't work either: I attached the flysheet to the ends of the poles (as we do with the inner tent) but I couldn't attach the last corner because the flysheet was already so stretched out that I couldn't reach the end of the pole. I pulled so much that I started worrying that I might rip the flysheet. It did hold up, but one corner of my flysheet was flying free.

Hi Derek, just finished watching your most recent walk across Ireland; really inspiring stuff man, well done. I am curious as to why you didn’t end up using the MSR as you said you were going to? I only ask because I am looking at getting one myself and wonder if there was something I should know about it before I do? Looking forward to watching your next adventure, take care.

is it normal that the floor/ground of the tent is not straight 127cm but only 115cm? The missing centimeters between 127 and 115 cm the floor of the tent stretches to the top.

thanks for confirming that the short ridge pole goes above the main one... i've been struggling with that in the field. (if you set it up underneath - where it naturally wants to be! - then that can make fitting the midpoint grommets tricky)

Looks like a fabulous tent. Why didn't you go for the Hubba NX (one person tent)? It is lighter. Is it just too small?
@DerekCullenOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
Hi John! Yes I always take two-person tents on my long distances trips because I believe it's worth having a bit more living-space in a tent when taking a long trip like this one. When I hiked the pacific crest trail a couple of years ago, I also found most long distance hikers felt the same. Cheers John :)
