Love the mispronunciation of “puh lat kah”.
@WolfgangXP65-672 жыл бұрын
Yeah, as a local, it's "pu-LAT-kah"
@MsGail613 жыл бұрын
Palatka is pronounced with the accent on the second syllable - Puh-LAT-ka.
@StaPuft993 жыл бұрын
So many people make that mistake. Same with Apopka, which is really funny!
@DanielDavis19733 жыл бұрын
Just to clarify the phonetics.. I'd write it as Puh-LATT-kuh (to avoid ka sounding like kaw)

You know it's a dead mall when mall walkers are forbidden from high stepping it through the empty corridors.
@sharks95552 жыл бұрын
i cant believe it's still up. when i was a little kid it was still mostly empty, liminal and creepy. there were less and less stores as time went on. my mom used to bring clothes to a consignment shop there thats moved farther up the street now, if its still there. just watching this is so eerie. i thought it was a place no one outside of palatka would ever see. i even remember when there was still water in that fountain thing. Also no offense but just so you know we say it more like puh-lacka, not pallet-kuh

As someone who lives very near the city by 10+ miles, I have looked to the Palatka Daily News to find that there was news of a redesign of the exterior look. They said it was going to happen in fall of this year but I don't think it happened. Over a year and it still remains the same. Haven't been in Rose's for a bit but have been near the mall, and into the shoe show. Last time I was there, I was with my grandmother getting sonic. I never knew that the mall was going to bring in a new look but ho-ly it didn't happen, and I don't think it is going to happen any time soon. My county is one of the poorest in the state, and barely anyone (unless you lived here forever and don't like major cities) likes it here at all. Everyone would rather go to Alachua, Marion, or St. Johns counties for their main shopping, even though there is enough to help those who are in desperate need of stuff of cool brands. Stores like Hibbett, Beall's Outlet, Five Below, Marshall's, Rose's Citi Trends, and Shoe Show are the places to go when you want good fashion of major brands.

I have videos of that mall in 1984. It was booming with KB toys store, GNC, Kenny’s shoes, 3 jewelry shops, kings arts and craft, foot locker, sound garden music, a awesome arcade, food court. The mall hosted car shows inside the mall, Halloween trick or treat, the inside had fountains and would always have beauty pageants. All Putnam school art shows and science exhibits. The airport would have planes fly over the parking lot and drop paper plates with discount codes to use in stores. It was a cool spot to hang out!

I went to this mall once with a friend of mine back in 1983 while stationed in Jacksonville with the Navy. It was really nice then. Wish I had taken pictures. From what I remember, not much has changed as far as the design or layout. Speaking of Jacksonville, have you done any malls there that might be coming up? I hear Regency Square is at death's door. Some thriving malls in the area too like The Avenues and Orange Park Mall. We always look forward to your videos. Please keep 'em coming!

There's an enormous paper mill in Palatka, and those jobs pay well, so the local economy's not that bad.

I lived near here (Hawthorne) from 2000-2011 and this mall was going way down hill back then. No food court, only two shops that were decent. The fact that that it's this bad now is, sadly, not a surprise.

when there is a child support enforcement center in your mall, pretty much any business that is open in that mall will lose its customer base.

Great video! It's odd how it doesn't allow mall walking. Wasn't pro wrestler Michelle MCCool from and or billed from the town or area ? I was thinking so.
@DanielDavis19733 жыл бұрын
I grew up in the Orange Park area (suburb on the south side of Jax) and Palatka is in a weird place geographically. It's between Jax and Orlando metros but it's away from any major highway except US-17 which isn't nearly as high traffic as I-95 and I-75/Turnpike. Other malls were much better located for any major highway traffic so Palatka is mostly stuck with local traffic. The only thing the city has going for it is that it's the county seat for Putnam county but that isn't much for a rural county caught between suburban regions.
@WolfgangXP65-672 жыл бұрын
Plus the fact of how devistatingly poor the county is.
@alfsleftnut922410 ай бұрын
Yeah its in that weird position where it should be a sucessfull town just based on traffic going between all the major cities, but isn't

The same thing is happening to a lot of small town Texas malls. Conversion to a Big box center with some portions of the mall corridor staying open for office or service tenants.

Oh lord it's healthy. I went there yesterday for Buffalo Wild Wings and that still isn't enough. I want to go to Hot-Topic, JCPenney, and Shoe Carnival to name a few. Might try forever 21 too, and Spencer's, idk.

Hey, I live in palatka. You are right, most people in town go to st augustine or jacksonville to do shopping. I'm barely old enough to remember the mall having actual stores in it. The white store by the entrance used to be a dollar general and a hibbits sports used to be in the middle of the mall. The theater also recently closed

I love the malls that have street lamp type lights in the interior! The tinted globes on the lamps gives it and extra dose of late 70s/early 80s! Unfortunately, that not withstanding, this is pretty dull and not too attractive. Great vid though!

Really cool interior, love the brick work and ceilings and the light fixtures. Too bad all of the classic malls out here were either demolished for new towers or renovated beyond recognition. Well at least you did not bump in to Florida man :)

There are still quite a few old Florida malls out there. Granted, progress demands they get torn down, but they're out there. I'll find more soon enough.

@@DoomieGruntVentures Your too late for the mall in Seminole, Fl. It was a medium size mall and Kmart, Public, and some other larger stores, and small stores. Public moved out into a stand alone building and we all know what happened to Kmart. The only store left was Radio Shack at the end. A lonely store in a empty mall, so sad. The food court was where seniors gathered and danced to old time dance music from mostly the 40's during the afternoon. Its all gone now.
@kurtvanzyl52182 жыл бұрын
I was in there about 8 years ago. There was an empty parcel that had a lonely Dynamo Air Hockey table sitting toward the back. I wonder what happened to it. I wonder if its still there. Maybe thats where the mall arcade was.

Lol he kept pronouncing Palatka very wrong. Also I'm from Palatka and the mall was so Amazing when I was a kid was so sad when it shut down now it's just a daycare and 2 government things inside and a few other buildings attached to it. And no it's so not scary inside people coming walking in here sometimes for exercise mainly older people or workers .
