Life long Brunswick Resident here. IIRC the Glynn Place Mall was originally slated to open in 1985 - the columns at the center court had “1985” on them in Roman Numerals for a long time - they tried to speed up the construction after the Brunswick Mall burned under suspicious circumstances in September 1983. JCPenney was first to open in 1984 followed by the rest of the mall a couple months later. People would go to Penneys just to get a peek into the new mall as they were finishing up construction. The Embassy Suites and the theater came along in the late ‘80’s and K-Mart in the early 90’s. K-Mart was the last anchor to go into the mall and the first to close. Steve and Barry’s moved into that space and went under not too long after. More recently some of around here would refer to it as “Belk Place Mall” because of all the Belk outlets that had opened in former retail spaces in the mall.

Looks like you filmed this in 2022, today … about 90% of the stores in this video are boarded up. With that said , best movie theatre in orlando, watch a movie alone for $7 and awesome nachos !

I used to go to this mall as a kid in the late 80's and 90's. It's been a very very long time. I see they carpeted it, which is weird for a mall. It's also brighter. That Pizza Place was there way back in the day. I'd get pizza then go to the arcade which was close to the food court. Good times.

Please legalize Urban exploration
@charlestonpinballarcade
@charlestonpinballarcade Күн бұрын
If you are serious… Urban explanation cannot be legalized because you are going on someone’s property to view a structure. An urban exploration law cannot override the rights of a property owner. Even if the property is vacant and considered abandoned, ownership will first go to the bank if there is a lien. If no lien, the property will go to any next of kin and if no next of kin, it will eventually fall to the town or county.

The halls of this mall are where I pulled open my Charizard Pokemon card from a pack back in 1999. First time I ever visited this mall. I still remember running back to the card shop to show them and having my picture taken. They were in disbelief. I wish I had that picture. When I got back to school that Monday and word spread what I had, I was the talk of the school that day. That seems like yesterday to me. I went back with a girlfriend in 2008 or 2009 and the mall was already heavily in decline by that point. I remember the American Eagle had just gone out of business, it was the first time we had ever seen an AE go under. There was a womens clothing store that she liked though. I remember the abandoned Kay Bee Toys was still there at the time with the signage still up

This mall was built to replace the smaller more modest Saratoga mall which was torn down in 1998ish. for a while we had 2 malls right next to each other.

It used to be very lively back in the 2000's..they renovated it a few times..they had fountains in the hall ways and blood red carpeting LOL..but after the renovations it never really got back together especially after KB toys, Sears, EB Games, and other stores disappeared..the food is ok..

Started going to Fashion Square in 2004 as an East Orlandian. I am 32 now. I spent the best parts of my life coming to this mall, hanging with my friends as a teen. Got to experience the arcade, Colussium of comics, Japan HQ. The mall was always busy then. Started dying around 2010. Depressing that it's all over. Some of the best memories.

Anyone remember the big clock in the floor? The glass over it was probably a minimum of 1 to 2 inches thick and perfectly flush with the floor so people wouldn't trip. There was also a wall made up of rocks, mostly mica. We would peel thin layers of the rocks off, we were just dumb kids in the 70s. Cool video, thanks for sharing. 😅👍

I was just at the Turnpike Mall this weekend. The only store left in the mall is Petco. The AAA is closed. The book stand is still there. At the right end of the mall there's a Harbor freight with no internal access.

I used to live not far from this mall 1994 and 95 not too far from Hunt Valley Mall in Delaney Valley. Assumed this mall would be gone like most of the rest for shocked to see that it is still open! Makes me wonder about Hunt Valley Mall I hear it's gone? the small is not far from Towson State University

Thanks for the walk through of my old stomping grounds in my high school days of the 1980's. I met my husband there- we were both working at JCPenneys in 1996. We celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary this year, so I have to say thanks to the Oaks mall for bringing us together.
