We find the derivative of sinx^2 with the chain rule, sin^2x with the chain rule, and sin2x also with the chain rule. Just for kicks, we also differentiate sin^2lnx at the end. #apcalculus #calculus1

Thank you, it was so hard to find someone who explained sin^2(x). and what rule to apply, how and why. There is something just strange about this format and how its actually done. Contrasting it against similar examples really hits the ball out the park.

Okay so I've understood everything else but how for (sin^2)x it is sin^2 that is the inside function not x
@WrathofMath
@WrathofMath Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and the question! sin^2 is not the inside function. We have f(x) = x^2 is the outside function and g(x) = sin(x) is the inside function. Our function then is f( g(x) ) = ( sin(x) )^2

What will the double derivative of sin^2(x) be?
@WrathofMath
@WrathofMath Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and for the question, you just use the product rule. The first derivative gives us 2sinx*cosx. Then say f(x)=2sinx and g(x)=cosx. So by the product rule, the second derivative, f' g + g' f will be 2cosx*cosx + (-sinx)*2sinx = 2cos^2x - 2sin^2x = 2cos2x.

@WrathofMath
@WrathofMath Жыл бұрын
Two applications of the chain rule. Take the derivative like we did of sin^2(x). But keep a 2x in the sine, and then at the end multiply by 2 as that's the derivative of 2x.
