Shure had some cartridges on Dual tables that were proprietary types that "snapped" on the headshell carrier thing without any screws. They usually had the designation "DU" or "LM"

I do not have a 701, but I have several great Duals. One I found a few years back at a record store for $50.00. It made a little noise and they did not know anything about Dual. I had couple from my Dad's system and one i bought used in 1980. The table I got for $50.00 was a Dual 1229. This thing was mint and with all the paperwork. They had a cloth dust cover over the plastic one. The noise came from the cardboard grid under the 7lb platter. It was hitting. After adjustment this thing was pristine. I decided to have gone through just because of the age. I had the other tables done prior from a guy in Des Moines. Moral sometimes can find one and cheap. But, be smart have them serviced properly, not just fix one problem. Then you will have years of enjoyment. My tables done in the last 5-10 years and work flawless

The clip-on version of the Shure V15-III are the factory mounted cartridges customized specially for DUAL, this also ensures you that the overhang is now spot-on . the 701 in combination with the Shure V15-III is a perfect marrigae !

Great video. I visited vinyl shop and I have a chance to buy Dual 701 with m20e ortofon for 250 EUR total. What do you think, is it better then to buy audio tecnica LP120XUSB or some other for that money?

What is the difference between the 701 Mk I and the 701 Mk II? I was not aware there were two different versions.

@@LP3-vinylcleaner I have managed to fix it with trial and error and bicycle chain oil. Its amazing how all of the functions are implemented in a purely mechanical manner. Thanks a lot for this part 1 though. It motivated me to try myself. (But Im sure a part 2 would help others with this turntable. Searching online it sounds like a lot of these 701s have these problems. )

If you ever wonder why the price of vinyl records are so expensive now days , Thank your local Hipsters for buying up all the vinyl cheap and reselling it for high prices thru the roof . But Vinyl mite lose popularity one day but thats not going too happen for at least 5 to 10 years or so .
