When this song came out it was when the world seemed to be falling apart..corona, wild fires, shootings. For me the line “we used to be giants” represented how we as humans seemed to be invincible before all this stuff happened and like one little virus happened and everything else seemed to be falling apart.

Yeah I think he means that they were giants in the sense that their love was the biggest and the greatest before they split up/lost that love. He says he stills feels the same and is remembering feeling the best with her, that their love was all encompassing and natural and amazing etc, they were giants together and everyone else was insignificant.
