I saw the Killers last year in the O2 arena; it was during the Euros and England had got through to the semi finals. The band stopped the show so that we could watch the winning goal and then we sang "Mr Brightside" It was an amazing and magical moment ❤ The killers are honorary Brits and "Mr Brightside" is an unofficial national anthem 😹

You need to know, Mr Brightside is the unofficial National Anthem of the UK - you want the crowd jumping, you put on this song! I believe the entire country knows it word for word.

The Killers were heavily inspired by British music, and they were not embraced in the US and looking like they were not going to get a big break. Their break came in the UK, where the song became huge and they came over and stayed for a while. Then the US took notice. They even often sing with a slight British sound, and with the British influence as well nobody noticed they werent for a while.

There's a great killers live clip where they stopped the concert to show the end of a football (soccer) game and when the final whistle blew and England had won they started mr Brightside.

I have been lucky enough to see The Killers three times! They always deliver an amazing show and Mr. Brightside is always a huge hit. A fond fond fond memory for me is when I played this song in my car as I was driving my 93 year-old mother to lunch. A little backstory, my mom always took interest in what my siblings and I were listening to. She loved the Beatles, ELO, Bruce, and many more of whom we played for her. My own children have continued this family tradition, keeping my husband and I current with many bands and genres. We introduced our music to them and they have kept us current. So, fast forward to a June day in 2016. I was taking mom to Panera for lunch when Mr. Brightside came on the sound system. I told her it was a band we saw with our children and we jumped up and down like idiots. It was so cool to see thousands of people jumping right along with us. She told me “crank it up, I want to hear what all the fuss is about!” In true mom fashion, she bobbed her head up and down and gave it her fun song approval! That was the last lunch I shared with my mom as she passed away a week later. What an incredible memory and I’m so glad it was such a fun song. The Killers and Mr. Brightside will always be special to me! ❤️

Brandon Flowers has talked alot how the UK pretty much broke this song into anthemic status and every of a certain age here knows every word and sings it insanely loudly, it's a beautiful thing. In terms of it being a sad song, I genuinely think there's something we love here as well about the melancholy behind it and it's like a weird unifying thing that we've all been through so everyone sings it til our voices go

It's fun and all that but an audio engineer would say the sound technician didn't do his job very well that day. The mix is terrible but I guess it's a happy mistake. Crowds sing anthemic songs at concerts all the time you just aren't supposed to hear them so strongly when it's being recorded.
