Lyrics When everything was broken The devil hit his second stride But you remember what I told you Someday, I'll need your spine to hide behind For fear of moments stolen I don't wanna say goodnight But I'll still see you in the morning Still know your heart and still know both your eyes I could have told you ‘bout the long nights How no one loves the birds that don't rise So you can tell the heroes go hide My sense of wonder's just a little tired But if only you could see yourself in my eyes You'd see you shine, you shine I know you'd never leave me behind But I am lost this time Are we destined to burn or will we last the night? I will hold you 'til I hold you right But if only you could see yourself in my eyes You'd see you shine, you shine So we'll run into the open Keep your hand inside of mine And then when everything is over I hope to think of this as better times The sky got red and swollen I guess I never see the signs There can't be songs for every soldier It can't be solace every time you cry I could have told you ‘bout the long nights How no one loves the birds that don't rise So you can tell the heroes go hide My sense of wonder's just a little tired But if only you could see yourself in my eyes You'd see you shine, you shine I know you'd never leave me behind But I am lost this time Are we destined to burn or will we last the night? I will hold you 'til I hold you right But if only you could see yourself in my eyes You'd see you shine, you shine I was lost 'til I found you Now these songs will hold and hide your name All it was was all about you Since that night, the moon has never seemed the same And if only you could see yourself in my eyes You'd see you shine, you shine I know you'd never leave me behind But I am lost this time What if the love you deserve is love you never find? I've learned in love and death, we don't decide And if only you could see yourself in my eyes You'd see you shine, you shine

@@elafalzahrani8511 I believe he's using the bird rising analogy in regards to being successful and accomplishing something, or overcoming something. Birds are admired for their ability to fly, a bird that can't is essentially a failure, and a failure in life don't get much love or any at all. I think he's being introspective.. I could be completely wrong but that's how I interrupted it.
@BaconManProd

@@Grey_fox12 Nah I think you're right. People associate birds with freedom because of their ability to fly. If a bird can't fly they just become like everything else on the ground.
@liberalirishman1425
@liberalirishman1425 5 жыл бұрын
What do you do when you see a bird soaring over head? You gaze up in wonder and awe at their majesty. What do you do when you look down at a bird pottering around on the ground? Nothing much. I think it's analogous to life. Those with drive and ambition, those who take responsibility and can persevere and soar are looked upon with respect and admiration. Those who are happy dwelling in mediocrity fade into obscurity. (my interpretation)

Every once in a while, the road of your life intersects with the work of an artist who has poured their experiences out for you in a way that reaches into where you are and walks with you for a time. More than just a soundtrack, there is a shared emotional connection- you literally feel what they are expressing and are moved by it. I wept, straight up broken. Thanks Dermot I needed that, can't wait to see you again in April!! God Bless and keep you, you are a gift.

Even as a songwriter I’ve never wanted a lyric tattooed on me more than “what if the love you deserve is love you’ll never find”… brutal but so so honest 🥲

Been a fan for over a year. Dermot is sooooo underrated and he sings like a beast with pure heart and soul. So proud of him. Can't wait to see him live someday here in the Philippines 😭🙌👑♥️

Every single song this guy has is extremely well written. He has a story to tell and does it as good as anyone. Great tone, great distortion, sense of melody is spot on.
