The lyrics resonate with me a lot more now as a grown man. Shit. I wish Deron didn’t lose his mind and kill the OG cKy. I liked the Phoenix but it’s no IDR. I'm surprised it seems hardly anyone noticed this entire video strongly seems to be ABOUT his drinking problem - and how painfully aware of it he is... I've met him, and have known about his sobriety issues and attitude for years. I can also see that it has been brought up a lot in the comments - and honestly, I'm agreeing with all of you on that. However, I'm going to point this out: While the original may or may not have been about it -- possibly something else entirely (that was years ago now, and well... I wasn't there) - but it's very obvious to me that the way this video was written/directed clearly seems to be about his lack of sobriety and chronic anti-social behavior. And about how alone those habits leave you in the end. Lyrically, it's been mentioned in several songs since the beginning. I could be wrong, but it certainly seems heavily implied here in this video. As for his stepping away - the entire group had/has issues - and are slowly working on it at thier own pace. Some... not so much. Though not in the band, ironically Bam has done the most work on cleaning up. And let's be real - they all hung out a lot. Everyone partied hard, and they all were out of hand. Deron needed to be away for awhile. Maybe he still does. I'm not there, so I don't know. Also, I didn't think it was that bad. His vocals have definitely tanked a bit. He needs to get the flaps back in shape. Of course, I'll always prefer the original. But I dunno, I didn't hate it as much as some did. That's just me, though. Oh well. Maybe I liked it because it's solo version and the video (and it's "story") seems to give the song a different feel to it in my opinion. There seems to be more pain and loneliness to it.

Slate me all you like, but some people seem to forget that behind every band, there's a mastermind. In the case of CKY, that was Deron. Like or hate this rendition, it's more than likely he wrote it, so he's entitled to put out his own version albeit solo, of the record... Personally I like it. ALL MUSIC is down to personal taste, if you don't like it, find something else, move along, or write something better yourself...
@nedphilanders66610 жыл бұрын
This is kind of a silly thing to say. It's like saying anything subjective shouldn't be criticized. "All meals are down to personal taste, if you don't like the meal you were served at your favorite restaurant, move along or make something better yourself." No. I'm allowed to criticize because I've been to this restaurant for years and it has set a standard for the quality of food it produces. When they serve me up a plate of terrible vocals and cringe-worthy video that the chef himself would shit all over if another chef did it... c'mon. It's obviously bad.
@TheLochNessWhisper9 жыл бұрын
+Daniel Thomas This doesn't explain the absolute SHIT we are getting in today's hip hop genre....yet these videos and songs have millions of hits.....it is down to personal taste you idiot. Because it's an art. Eating a meal at a restaurant is not comparable to ones aesthetic taste in music.
@nedphilanders6669 жыл бұрын
+Lochness A meal prepared by a chef is absolutely comparable to music prepared by an artist in that they are both forms of art subject to criticism by everyone, even people that couldn't do better. My point was that "Stop criticizing and go make something better yourself" is a stupid argument when someone says they find a song terrible, especially when they're familiar with, and appreciate, the rest of the artist's body of work.
@TheLochNessWhisper9 жыл бұрын
+Daniel Thomas Where you are missing the difference, is that some artists make music for themselves, and they know some fans might not like their change but it's not their art. Personally I don't think Deron or CKY (his band) for that matter has ever been the kind of artist that doesn't make music for themselves. Regardless of what criticism they get for it I'm pretty sure if a chef (like Deron in this case) made art for themselves you wouldn't be enjoying it right? They would. You're entitled to you opinion, but if you think for one second that the music you are expecting to get from this artist has to be a certain way for you to enjoy it without considering that this art may not be made for you to enjoy in the first place but for his to share. You aren't respectful to the creator.

DERON wrote all the riffs and lyrics, remeber that, so if he wants to carry on, let him, i know it will not be the same without Chad and Jess but let him do what he wants, without you guys hating all the fucking time, so if you don't want to hear a new cky album without chad and jess, so dont, nobudy is asking you to listen to it, i bet there is a lot of people left in the CKY Alliance ( including me) that cant wait to hear it, so, to all the haters, BACK THE FUCK OFF
