Thank you for posting this - I hadn't seen this interview before. Derren is one of my absolute heroes. Aside from the fact that his work is simply breathtaking, I love the fact that he is never unkind to people - he teases and has fun, he certainly makes us aware of our fallibility, but is never cruel or belittling. Hero at 30,000 Feet and Apocalypse, in particular, both took people whose lives were in a rut and made them discover something quite extraordinary in themselves. Even Assassin, Gameshow and Pushed to the Edge, which on the face of it seemed quite brutal, made the participants (certainly this viewer!) look at themselves with renewed thoughtfulness. The thoroughness and attention to detail in the shows is exquisite. There are very few famous people I would care to meet, but Derren Brown and Stephen Fry are most definitely on my list!!

This is how he is in his everyday life, very humble and chill bloke. His energetic and formal persona is purely character for performance. i would really like to see derren do more exposures of "psychics" i just watched "infamous" and he echoed the exact words i use about them, that they are despicable for targeting the vulnerable, the whole astology / tarot / psychic / medium thing needs to be put to bed for good, it's harmless in some instances, but people take this information to heart and act on it when it has no substance, the thick end of the wedge is that there are churches with congregations that believe they have been cursed by witches and want those witches to burn, that's christian churches in the 21st century, i kid you not, susperstition needs to be unpacked. derren does great shows, like his sense of humour, love that is concerned about the participants. more please sir.

I'm intrigued about Derren's nodding thing -- is it a random reflex, or something more mysterious? o.O
@eloisemorris27217 жыл бұрын
He does mention it in 2 of his books, tricks of the mind and confessions of a conjuror. It came up early on when he was learning and starting out in hypnosis at Uni. When trying to influence compliance in someone he would nod to agree with the person. It soon turned into a twitch which comes up on stage in front of thousands or with one interviewer. He admits in the books its now a nervous thing. The books are a really good read if you're a fan :)

@vii64295 жыл бұрын
I know this comment is ancient, but I think you're referring to the head nodding. He wrote in a book that he started doing that for mentalism and stuff, but now it's more of a nervous twitch.

+Robert Andersson dont be a pleb, there is no class on hypnosis at any respectable british university, he means that he was studying himself, privately how to hypnotise and at uni he was studying law and german classes.
@i_amshiki10758 жыл бұрын
Robert Andersson the hypnosis he was learning wasn't the ordinary hypnotherapy, he was learning Ericksonian Hypnosis, the term "study" is applicable because we do offer 15 days training in the said skill, granting one the title "certified hypnotist" and the trainers usually travel places to train people.
