Derrick by Orlane Fragrance Review

A review of the 1978 release from the house of Orlane called Derrick, this is a very masculine woody spicy soapy fragrance. This scent performs especially well lasting over 10 hours. A great scent to wear in cold weather and in the evenings.

Today I was in a perfume shop and tried a tester of this fragrance. Of all the perfumes I was testing, this one was an instant love and I immediately bought it. It was cheap and I've never heard of it before by the way and never expected it to be a seventies cologne until now hearing it from you, because it smells modern and unique to me, but yes it has this nostalgic feel to it that sets it apart. I'm so happy to see that you did a review about it. This could be my signature versatile scent. I think it can be worn in summer too because it's a clean smell. I have been wearing Derrick since 1990, the first bottle I had was a dark green cap. The bottles afterwards, the caps were black. The scent was still the exact same. Long lasting scent, in weather 50 degrees or lower. As you stated, not a good one to wear in warmer weather. Which is probably why Orlane created Derrick Silver, but it is nowhere near as good of a scent as the original. The Silver scent dissipates within 2 to 3 hours and very underwhelming. I do not have a big collection of fragrances, because I haven't found any that blew me away like Derrick. I was gifted a few over the years that still sit in my bathroom closet.

Just received a bottle...the drydown reminds me at least a bit of the current version of Oscar de la Renta pour lui. Its a great cheapie for the colder season.

The color of the bottle reminds me of the ten dollar bottle of Avon Black Suede Leather, which I ditched because I disliked it that much. Oh, how I wish I would have just bought regular Black Suede that day at the Avon store. (which to this day I have still never smelled).

If you're into green, try Silences by Jacomo. Forget about it being a women's fragrance, it's so grassy and vegetal guys can easily get away with it. Thanks for the review.

theperfumebox, where I order samples keeps popping up Cafe Parfum (1978) for women, so I clicked on it and it's the same house that makes Taxi (2000), which is dirt cheap on there. 7.50 a bottle. But I was searching for the Homme Cafe (for men) from 1978, which is not in that store. hmm. guess I could go on a wild goose chase for it. Tempting to buy that Taxi too. small world.

Hi Mr. K, very nice review, this is my next order, I’m happy that I found a vintage formulation. I really need your help with my eternal hunt (40 years jejeje) for classic scent from late 70’s that smells complex/wood/conforting/cold/camphor (mothball kind) mold/wet as well. I really don’t know what perfume is but I remember that smell on my friends house, like the smell of a expensive old wardrobe that was closed for a time during the cold months. This is the best that I can describe. I know that is a perfume, cause I smelled on someone’s é walking on street ( was a lot of people that day and I don’t know who’s wearing). Is a perfume for hugs. And another impression is a sophisticated/ classy/rich people, also kind of snobs feeling without trying to be. That kind. Please, do you have found anything like this description to help me.
