How it really feels when you are charged by an elephant
All of this happened at Tamboti Bush Lodge just 1 hours drive from Johannesburg.
A person always feels safe when there is a fence, especially an electric fence between you and any wild animals, but what, is the reality of such a situation.
Let me tell my story.
One day while my wife Pixie and I were walking inside our property, we have approximately 4 ha fenced off property inside the Dinokeng Game Reserve on which we have Tamboti Bush Lodge. We slowly walked along inside the fence and there was Sam Mashishi, our Matre’D. As we got to him he pointed out a large bull elephant about 40 meters from the fence. We all stood for a moment watching him until he turned and saw us and started flapping his ears. Pixie and Sam decided to skedaddle out of there and that left me, the dumb klutz standing about 3 meters from the fence with a 4 ton bull elephant charging at me. Now for most of my three score and ten years I have been my own boss and am used to having people listen to me so I imperiously put my hand up and commanded the elephant to “stop”, also having read in the Bible that man has dominion over the beasts. This elephant obviously was not aware of these sage words or my prominent position in life and 4 tons of mean elephant came to a rapid stop right at the fence.
