The day that Mottram held off the sting of Bekele! What a great battle!
@inboundmoose23496 жыл бұрын
Mottram was really something else, he's the only caucasian runner I've observed that could ever find himself competing with the likes of Bekele or Gebresalssie. He was just a beast over 3k and 2 miles. Bekele seemed to think he wouldn't be a threat at all, and he prefers to let others pace for him, which he did over the last kilometer of the race and thought he could easily outrun Mottram for the final sprint. He definitely did not expect to Mottram to push the pace and outsprint him in the last lap. I'm a diehard Bekele-fan but he lost to a truly extraordinary runner. Mottram had such a solid form and rhythm to his run. Very few caucasian runners seem so perfectly built for the sport like he was.

So good they had to trip him up at the Olympics. They were scared of him.

On the other hand I don’t think Mottram understood what kind of menace he beat at the time

@@chijanai I do understand the meaning. Do you? Generally, middle Eastern and northern African peoples, which would include El Guerrouj, are also considered Caucasian, coming from a similar genetic ancestry, distinct from African populations that did not make migrations to Eurasia or the Asian continent. El Guerrouj to me is just as astounding an example of runners who break the mould. Caucasian traits are less apt for long distance running compared to those of Eastern Africans.
@chijanai4 жыл бұрын
@@inboundmoose2349 It is clear. Aouita, Morceli, El Guerrouj who are all caucasian did very well in 3000 m. Long distance running like marathon is dominated by Africans especially in the last two decades.

Not sure why you're saying he burned out too soon... he made four olympic teams (00' 04' 08' 12') and was one of the best distance runners in the world from 2005-2007. He had one of the longest elite careers of any distance runner. That said, he retired from competition in 2016 after running the London Marathon. His goal was to run under 2:19 and qualify for a fifth Olympic games but he didn't make the time.

DEVERIA DIZER O NOME DO ATLETA QUE VENCEU BEKELE,POIS NÃO É QUALQUER UM QUE FAZ ESSE FEITO E TAMBÉM É UMA FALTA DE RESPEITO COM O ATLETA VENCEDOR.

Looking at 10 000 metres for instance, Mo Farah can beat Bekele if he does not stay far behind during the race.
