What I love about Erin is that, strictly speaking, she’s actually an author avatar of the show’s creator Lisa McGee but she avoids all the Mary Sue traps by being just as flawed as the other girls yet still well intentioned and rational enough to be likeable. Lisa McGee not only avoided idealising her teenage self but if anything, she likely exaggerated her flaws for comedy. Erin Quinn is an author avatar as protagonist done right.
@sammiepittman313023 күн бұрын
she didn’t exaggerate her flaws. She’s a teenager. They’re not good at things and stupid. Also take into account the time period, they’re anxious and burdened with harsh political climate. What does being a “mary sue” have to do with anything?

I don’t really think that’s true, most Irish people have English relatives or have spent some time in England. Likewise, UK citizens are the second largest minority group in the Republic of Ireland. What we in Ireland don’t like is how the British establishment historically treated Ireland, or how little consideration many Brexiters have for the negative impact of UK withdrawal on the island of Ireland. But these are rather specific issues which don’t necessarily reflect on the British people as a whole.
