Des Bishop Podcast ep:73 Trump's Ratings

On today's episode I am really just longing for a time where things weren't so divisive. I open with a quick chat about fostering a dog and whether pitbulls are a problem. I then chat about Trump's tweet about his ratings and that sets me off. I then talk about the end of "the center" and how there is "No fence to sit on." Mostly I am just trying to make sense of this crazy time.

Des! Thank God for you ! I moved back to Dublin 8 last Summer after 20 years in Nassau County NY. Yours is the only remotely comparable experience to mine. Sitting here apoplectic every time Trump opens his mouth. I scream at the TV too and thought I was the only one. CAN'T GET OVER that nobody is rioting in the streets over there!!! I thank God every night that I'm back in Ireland. What timing!

Hey Des, really do love listening to you. We had a pretty similar childhood in that I was born in The Bronx and lived in Throgs Neck till I was 6. Then we moved back to Ireland and I grew up in Co.Limerick, in the country. I came back to the US in 91 at age 19 just as the Celtic Tiger got going. So we grew up there in different eras. But I get all your jokes be they Irish themed or American themed. I would definitely love if you had a true "center" show and I'd watch it religiously. I'd honestly say though that you'd have a very difficult time controlling your emotions on it!!! You're a passionate guy who believes in his beliefs wholeheartedly. I agree with you 100% on the ludicrous tweets from Trump about ratings and going after people on a personal level. He's definitely a man who steps out of line more than anyone else I've seen as President. Some of the shit he says infuriates me too, but I have to admit, I love his honesty about what he thinks. That's what I love about New Yorkers, they have no problem calling you out if they see or hear something that's wrong or they disagree with. Trump calling CNN fake news is so fucking dead on. And to your point, FoxNews is no better on the opposite side of the aisle, I agree. Trump has one backer, Fox, but he has dozens of media outlets against him. CNN, MSNBC, NBC, ABC, CBS, just to name the five biggest news whore outlets on the left. I watch AlJazeera quite a bit now because on there, you just get the story. You don't get the opinions of a couple of schmucks talking shit about the other side. Politicians are all corrupt ffs. They go into politics poor and retire millionaires for the most part. Just look at AOC. In Ireland, just one term in the Dail, guarantees you a pension for life! WTF! Where else in the real world of employment does that exist? Your rant about Trump has some very good points, granted. Have you got any solutions to offer? It's easy to criticize him in this once in a lifetime situation. You should do some research into Fauci before you prop him up as being such a voice of authority. He's not everything he's made out to be. Just follow the money and see how many sources of income he has and has had. It'll change your mind about the cunt. I do agree with you on Cuomo. He has stepped up in a great way and should replace Biden, whose verbal gaffes just in the last month show his senility and incompetence. Why hasn't Obama endorsed him? Enough from me for now. I think one of the reasons Trump "attacked" hospital workers by insinuating that they're the ones responsible for masks "disappearing and walking out of the back door" is because they're the ones making the headlines ight now. They're being hailed as heroes. Several of Trump's more recent briefings have even been cut off while he was mid sentence to return to regular programming. I'm sure he has no gratitude towards hospital workers. He sees them currently as taking the spotlight away from him and from all of the tremendous things, the beautiful things, things they say have never been done before by any other president ... DJ Trump, POtuS His entire presidency has run on Obama-Envy. Now, I suppose he can add hospital worker-envy to his daily motivations. I despise that man.

Pitbull mixes are so in need of fostering and adoptions. County run shelters and animal control have gotten to a point that any pit bull/mix coming into the shelters are the most likely to be put down. I have one. Raddles was found roaming around an apartment complex and in poor shape. He is fantastic! If I had young children, I would likely not consider a pure bred. I have nothing but positives to say about Raddles.

OK Des, I am only telling you this because I love you and I cannot do without you. A friend of a friend adopted a pitbull from a shelter and three weeks later she was found dead in her backyard having been killed by the dog. The dog had been evaluated to make sure that it was suitable for adoption and passed all the tests but nevertheless killed this woman. This happened in Maryland a few years ago you can probably Google it and verify that what I’m telling you is true. This is just to say be careful! I myself would never have a pitbull but I think what you’re doing is admirable. I just don’t think it’s worth dying over so watch yourself! Oh, and Trump is a narcissistic psychopath so please feel free!

There are two guys who ride motorcycles and talk about their experiences in China (well they did, until the anti-foreign sentiment in China made them move to the U.S.) Their channel is ADV China. I dunno Des, maybe try getting your news off of moderate news sources on the internet? It is very difficult to believe any mainstream media these days as its so obvious that they are as far away from real journalism as could possibly be. I think perspective is really important at a time like this.

I try not to speak in general terms but if you take a step back and ask seriously what political persuasion someone is, where they get their news from is a pretty good indicator. The perspective that I spoke of being important is the lens by which each of us views the world. If you only gather information from one particular news source you could have a very "one-eyed" view of the world - be that from the left or the right of the political spectrum. However, if you were to gather information from sources that are reputable across the political divide or as close to moderate and unbiased as possible then I would suspect your perspective to be more balanced. Personally, for me I think it is my responsibility to gather as many view points while being aware of my own biases/perspective I am viewing information from. But that's not to say its the right way just what I have found works for me.

@@markdeegan4113 If you listen from 8:29 forward, he named *several* varied news sources: Two newspapers based in the US, two in the EU/Ireland; He often listens to several conservative AM radio talk shows; He reads Trump's Twitter posts; He watches 2 or 3 personalities' shows on Fox News; and he watches Trump's daily news' briefings. Hell, he even said that he watched Fox News ALL MORNING. He exposes himself to far more right leaning news sources than many Trump supporters. Yet, he is still able to decipher fact from fiction. He,like all of us, is able to watch and hear Trump say something on Friday at 5pm only to turn around and hear him on Sunday deny the very statement(s) he had made just 2 days prior. We are ALL able to watch and listen to Trump during his daily briefings. He makes uncountable statements of "facts", yet standing next to him are medical expert(s) and members of his taskforce, and one if them has to come to the podium in between Trump's answers and statements to "clarify" and "correct" what has literally just spewed out of Trump's mouth. It's not like this happens once or twice every couple of weeks; No, it's 6,7, 10 times EACH day. We, ourselves, can see and hear Trump tell us point blank lie after lie after lie. We watch him on a daily basis spend more than half of his briefings patting his own back. Then, when the news media that actually fact-checks Trump and exposes him later that same night, Trump has to call in to Fox News the following morning, where the questions he gets asked are as tough as "What did you have for breakfast?", in order to shore things up with his base in case any of them happened to be watching another news program the night before that exposed Trump's plethora of lies. He has, for over 3 years, refused to appear on CNN. I suppose he knows they don't care what he had for breakfast. No one, including Des Bishop, needs to watch, read or listen to multiple news' sources to realize that Trump is a total BUFFOON and is in WAY OVER HIS HEAD with this pandemic. The ONLY thing they have to watch is Trump live and on-air. Some, if not most, of the things he has said and done, especially regarding this pandemic, are absolutely disgusting. I would say shameful, but a narcissist has no shame. So, what "other" news sources do you think he could be using to make sure he has an even well-rounded cirlce of news and news media?

I'm not having a go at Des, he's a good lad. It was a genuine suggestion after listening to his video. I'm sure he'd get a kick out of you white knighting for him though. Reading your comment I'm not sure you know what mainstream media is. I answered your query in good faith but feel like this interaction could degenerate into an argument- I've heard about people having arguments in comment sections of youtube and don't particularly want to be one of those people. I'm afraid I'm going to have to consciously uncouple from this interaction - Much love.

Since you suggest that more moderate news sources are a way for him to change his views, it sounds like you do disagree with him regarding Trump. Regardless, you still haven't offered up any these "moderate" news sources.
