Des Plaines River Fishing. Smallies and Pike, Cook County Illinois

Yeaterday I hit the Des Plaines river at Schiller woods and was surprised how many bass I caught , today going north.

I've been fishing DPR for 4 years now, and the section I fish must be 💩 or maybe i just havent figured out the river yet cause I always see vids of ppl fishing this river, such as yourself, just absolutely slaying em. I was wondering if you can give me any tips, your preferred lures to use for Pike/Bass/Saugar? How to find em...Any advice in general I'd appreciate. Anyways, love the vids.

Everything from Colombia Woods and south of that is pretty good. Spinner baits, Rapala Xrap 8, hellgramite on a ned rig, V2 4play 135 are all I use. I caught over 80 bass in 2 days this past August with the hellgramite.

Are pike thru out the entire des plaines river? I haven’t been able to caught one yet was curious

They are all over. Some places are better than others. Hot summer days are the slowest. Fallen Trees, bridges, and slow current seem to work best.

I’ve seen pictures of 30”+ pike caught between Lake Cook Rd. and Dundee road in Wheeling caught on golden roaches

I know exactly where that spot is. I’ve never fished it though. Looks like it has some deep pockets,at least some times of the year

No kayak. I do have one of those raft boats I converted into a fishing boat. Little worried ill pop it in the river been staying on lakes.
