Des Roache slates Nick Walsh 'monumental error' in Diomande red card | Hotline Live

Nick Walsh made a 'monumental mistake' by sending off Mohamed Diomande - and Willie Collum will be raging.
That's the view of former Grade 1 ref Des Roache who told Hotline LIVE that the right decision has been reached in Rangers winning their appeal. The Ibrox side took their case to a fast track tribunal over wrongful dismissal after the Ivorian midfielder was sent packing by referee Walsh in the closing stages of Sunday's 3-1 win at Tannadice.
Walsh was sent by VAR to the monitor to review his decision to dismiss Diomande after the midfielder raised his hand to United’s Kevin Holt, although the contact was minimal.

Keith saying there's no conspiracy which is fine. But when you look at some stats and some decisions what other conclusion is there? - Rangers are the only team in the top 4 Scottish leagues not to have a penalty this season. - This is despite the fact Rangers have the most touches in the opposition box of all 4 leagues. - The cup final VAR/penalty incident - the officials had 1 job to do in a massive cup final and they couldn't slow down and actually look at the replays? - Less than a month later and Nick Walsh doubles down on his astonishing decision...the same Nick Walsh who didn't think Hatate's shin heigh tackle vs Kilmarnock was a red. - Has anyone explained why the SFA rushed out with a statement less than an hour after the Diomande decision? Who was it and why? It makes a mockery of the full situation now that they've climbed down and rescinded it.

why would the ref. Hand out a red card? The game was over, he could have handed out two yellow cards which nobody would be upset over. Instead the ref. was hellbent on grabbing the headlines. Overall the referee allowed Dundee Utd to run amok, kicking pulling, shoving, you name it. The game had gotten away from the ref. before halftime. Dundee Utd centre backs were dishing out for the whole game, it came as no surprise that one of them was involved in the ‘big’ incident.

A blind man can see that there's something going on here. Only overturned because it drew national ridicule. Every time that Celtic supporting officials are involved in a Rangers game, there are inexplicable decisions that go against Rangers. They just can't be trusted to be impartial. Walsh should never referee a Rangers game again. No faith that Collum will impose any meaningful accountability. He's part of the problem. The whole system has no credibility.

In scotland there is a real problem of Celtic and Rangers fans coming up with crazy scenarios and conspiracies , i always tended to shy away from this but since 2012 and what went on i have more and more seen an agenda against Rangers and their fans , wullie collum i knew of when he was a schoolboy but i always found him to be an honest referee who officiated games as best he could , did he make mistakes , yes of course he did but this walsh fellow i always find his officiating " controversial " to say the least when covering any fixtures Rangers are involved in .Thank goodness the SFA have dealt with this fairly and rescinded the crazy decision to send Diomande off for this stupid incident , how many overturned reds have Rangers now been subject to , in our game we have no need for officials to have any bias to one team or another , we need them to do their job and let the game flow and flourish

There is an anti Rangers bias from a cabal of Scottish referees. We all know it is for traditional West of Scotland reasons, but we are not allowed to talk about it. The referee who refused us a blatant penalty in the league cup final was pictured some years ago in his full Celtic regalia at Seville. He shouldn’t be anywhere near any games involving the old firm. Kevin Clancy (good Scottish name) also has a history of “genuine errors” in old firm matches. Make no mistake, this comes from the top at the SPFL and is a result of the Lawell years, when plans were put in place to recruit new referees from a sellik minded background. We are now seeing these plans come to fruition. My solution would be to reward incompetence with dismissal, or a reduction in ranks to the lowland/highland leagues for a full season. That would soon end acceptance of referees “genuine errors” against Rangers.

The word amongst top referees was, if you are sellik minded, you have a future in the SPL, if you aren't sellik minded, the best you'll get is 4th official or VAR, that's how, a few months ago, refs on VAR were asking for more money. I think the Seville ref is Eddie Smith a copper, he was binned from SPL after allegedly being extremely biased toward sellik in a game against Motherwell.

Willie Collum should be no where near these decisions. Posted before W.C. awarded a penalty kick in the old Scottish Junior Cup at Cambuslang Rangers from the other half of the park. I covered that story for a local paper and I am privileged to what went on afterwards.. Fast Tracked into Senior Football level. Oh, did he not award a penalty kick in the Old Firm game when he never actually saw the incident?

Crawford Allan resigned from his position as ''head of referees'' because he was having no say in promoting the best referees, the man at the head of the SFA is trying to fill the SPL with Celtic minded referees, Collum should never have been appointed, ''head of referees'', he was never even as good as, an average referee and after the Johnson hand ball incident, Collum should have been sacked. Walsh showed his true colours in the Dundee Utd V Rangers match, he should also be sacked.

Is it an honest mistake that Callum McGregor & Alasdair Johnston get away with Constantino fouling on a weekly basis with no booking until maybe the last ten minutes of a game, been going on for years. Be interesting to see which team is always booked first in an old firm game.

Apologies if i am wide of the mark here. Can i ask if Des Roach was/is a P.E teacher? I think that i may have been in a ref training course which included David Dickinson inside the old Reid Kerr College building. After that im sure i went to a number of fitness/training events where i 'think' Iain Brines and/or, Kevin Thompson were present

Don Robertson ibrox v Celtic last game.. was absolutely shocking.. two blatant fouls on hagi went unpunished.. one were Bernardino jumped on hagi s back as he was about too shoot on the Celtic 18 yard line with the ref right beside it.. the other johnstone Celtic elbowed hagi on the neck from behind both yellows nothing given… but when jeftte did a 50 50 and won the ball and his arm went accidental into the Celtic players face.. yellows carded but let’s two before go.. another anti rangers.. I think it’s because the fans sing total sectarian crap.. but the rangers players have nowt to do with this on the field.. a dangerous no intent to get the ball is a foul and a card.. Celtic got away with 3 yellows at ibrox.. so we carry on through inadequate refereeing.. that’s the facts.. but in thr past years 60s rangers did get many calls not now though and it’s why we get so many unusual injuries no one likes us we don,t care they sing.. but as a rangers player it’s double hard that’s the truth folks… but Celtic don,t get it all there own way in Europe so there is hope yet for fairness

The referee was correct to issue a red card as Diomande clearly attempted to slap the Dundee United player. Whether or not he made contact is irrelevant according to the Laws of the Game. What Action Should the Referee Take? 🔴 Red Card - The player should be sent off for violent conduct, even if no contact is made. Relevant Rule - IFAB Laws of the Game (Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct) According to Law 12, violent conduct includes: "When a player uses or attempts to use excessive force or brutality against an opponent when not challenging for the ball, regardless of whether contact is made." Since a slap is an act of aggression, it still qualifies as violent conduct. Even if the force of a slap might be less than that of a punch, the intent to strike an opponent is sufficient grounds for a red card. Does the Severity Matter? A slap is still considered violent conduct, even if viewed as less forceful than a punch. The referee does not need to consider the level of force-only the intent to strike. An attempt to slap is punishable by a red card, just like an attempted punch.

Diamonde's arm came up but only to keep Holt at arms length, Holt had just tried to push Diamonde to the ground with both hands on his chest, Holt's actions were closer to violent conduct than Diamonde's, go back and watch the game again, tell me how many times Diamonde was fouled during the game.

Diomande clearly attempted to slap Holt and it is irrelevant if it makes contact, as can be seen in the rule I quoted above.

1. The video footage isn't conclusive that Diomande made contact, particularly the angle shown to Nick Walsh. 2. The force used was negligible, which according to the IFAB ruling rules out a red card offence. Keep parroting Chris Sutton though if it makes you feel better.
