Cogito Ergo Sum wasn't a medieval sentiment in my opinion.

Not exactly. But other things in Descartes are very medieval, and Augustine did a precursor to _Cogito Ergo Sum_ .

@TeacherOfPhilosophy Before Cogito Ergo Sum is the statement: I doubt therefore I think, another reason to say that he was probably not medievalistic, since the medieval times didn't encourage doubt. Also if you read his "passions of the soul" he finds emotions to be situated in and caused by the mechanisms of the body, he comes across as a physicalist.

Doubt considered Descartes' way, as a problem to be overcome if possible, seems very Augustinian to me. But if your point is just that Descartes is very unlike the medievals in important ways, then I totally agree.
