I think that was my biggest complaint is the fact that it felt like an unfinished movie. The whole like we’re gonna have a sequel thing with such a copout. Just make one good movie and then make a second one that has its own standalone storyline.

They can’t even call this descendants.

Me and my sister agreed that is wasn’t a bad movie, it was a bad DESCENDANTS movie. You have a certain idea of what the series is like, and this movie just didn’t line up with that idea. It would have been fine if it wasn’t a fourth installment but a spinoff or something instead. It just felt like they were using the Descendants title as nostalgia bait.

Okay, but the odd thing to me is that, the whole movie seems to hint that Bridgette got pranked by not the villains, but the heros and it is some kind of betrayal that caused her to change her ways. Like oddly enough I really liked the story for 90% of it. If we follow the logic of everything even if the villains got the book themselves they would have still be paralyzed and sentenced to detention before the dance. The Bridgette still would have gotten pranked by who I assume would be Ellen and Charming or someone close to them. And yet in the movie it feels like they ran out of time and had to wrap it up which makes the ending feel really unsatisfying.

All the previous Descendants movies all had relatively clean endings yet never had issues tying into the next, you'd just find a new problem that needed to be resolved. I either see the opinion that the movie is bad and the worst out of the 4, or that it's really good and all the problems will get fixed in the sequel. Like no one has an in between. While it is the weakest movie in the franchise, and is filled with autotune, embarrassing choreography, lots of plotholes and zero climax, it actually had some good moments in it. I quite liked the relationship between Red and the Queen of Hearts and the entire coup scene was so absurd it was entertaining. Though it's not the best movie, it was weirdly endearing, and I liked it, it's now a sort of guilty pleasure movie for me. (Also, Chloe's wig... it just kept on getting bigger...)

As someone has studied musical theater, the whole point of having a song is to advance the story in such a way that talking would not express the amount of emotions needed. And this just felt like Redundant. They would have a scene about what is going to happen or what they need to do to make the resolution happen and then they would have a song that basically completely repeats what they just said??
