I am blind and it is great to have this narrated like it is. So many videos about braille or blindness but none are narrated. This was great. Thank you.

I started learning braille at the same age Louis went blind, and I am so grateful that I was able to learn that at that age. It's like a language for me now, even if I don't use it for a while, which happens sometimes because I am partially sighted, I'll never forget it. I am insanely grateful to Louis for inventing braille! I really want to go to his hometown at some point in my life. It's on my bucket list. Go Braille! Both the writing system and the person!

I am only partially blind, and over the summer I did a program at the blind school here in Indiana, and I decided to learn braille after I came back. It only took me an hour to learn it. I don't know many contractions, but I'm getting it. I can already touch-read most of this children's book I have (really slowly, but hey.) I commend Louis for creating this system.

It's such a touching and interesting video of Louis Braille. I'm going to share this video for my students to introduce Braile's magnificent life and invention. Thanks a lot for making this film and sharing it to the world.

Im 13 years old(14 in september) and i love to write. Im NOT blind, but i am studying things about blind people because one of my characters in my story goes blind. I feel that all of the poor blind people out there are very couragous, and that is what my character has to learn. Even though im not blind, i would love to learn how to read braille!

This is so cool! I love this! I myself am visually impaired and my sister is blind and we both grew up hearing the stories of people like Louis Braille and Helen Keller as often as hearing fairy tales. It was truly wonderful to see Louis' life dramatized in such a way. Thank you for this fantastic video.

w/ my glasses, i can see just fine, but i am still ticked that there's not more video documentaries on this young man. i read about him while i was in middle school, and he was FASCINATING. what he accomplished was truly amazing. be proud, france, he is one of your best inventors

I watched this or something very similar to this that displays the life of louis braille in 3rd grade. I found it amazing even at that young age, and after a while have tried to find it with no success. Thank you very much for uploading it. I search each year since 2006 hoping to find it. Its really a great documentry. :)

awesome vid I love Louis Bralile I did a report about him in 8th grade. I got an A and got to learn about somone who's had a REALLY big infulence in my life. I started learning bralile when I was 3 and am still learing it to this day. Well I"m learning Nemith code with is braille math. It wasn't develaoped by Louis but it is still braille. It's sad that he died at only 46 and he didin't even get to see his live's work help people all around the world. But he did help ppl that's all that matters.

People who can see should try for one day to be blind and so there can see for themselves what it is really like, a real blind person has to go through, without been able to see throughout their life.

Me encanta este video. Es muy motivador y nos hace valorar el esfuerzo que muchas personas han hecho y en especial en que hizo Lois Braille para darle una oportunidad de aprender y de crecer como seres humanos a aquellas personas con un desafio visual :o)

@he3rtbrok3n Oh I am sorry. I thought you were being sarcastic or something. I apologize. There are A LOT of items to help the blind, deaf and those with mobility issues (I am not deaf and I can move around just find but there are people at my school who cannot). Its amazing when you think that Braille had nothing and actually had to invent the Braille system and we have so much. It makes me respect the man (well I guess boy would be the right word as he was young when he invented it) much more!

This is the most awesome film but it doesn't need the graphic nature or the sense of impending doom of his injury to work - my daughter who's 10 and I knew that he was likely to do what he was asked not to do and were so worried for him that we skipped that whole section (in private I have watched it just to check the accuracy of our predictions of what was included in the film) and yet even without seeing this bit we still understood his story, his life and that a horrible accident had led him to that place - you don't need to watch or include that section - we strongly suggest a re-editted version goes up to broaden the audience - for those who want to miss it start at 4.00 when mum realises that his injury has led to his blindness as a little boy.
