Almost 11 years ago. This sermon made me repent, God turned my life around. I was a drug addict, lying, stealing, no hope, no vision. One friend sent me this link. I watched it, felt so compelled, went on my knees and prayed and got delivered from my addiction and all my sadness in one moment. Ive been clean for all this time, my marriage is restored and ive been speaking myself for 8 years in multiple churches and still more every year. God is great, nothing is impossible but sometimes we gotta be shaken!

This messge changed me too, i am so greatful that there still are true teachers of he gospel. That will teach the whole bible and not just parts. Its all abt the eternity. People want o hear what pleases them not the reverance, the fear of God. I pray that the body of Christ wakes up before it is too late. I believe we will stand before God one day not just as our Saviour but as our judge. I never want the fear of God to depart from me. Help me Lord to live a life worthy Your name.

People that are lukewarm don't fear God. He can take your life at any moment don't you understand that. He is almighty and he has control rather you know it or not.

There was a time I used to lay awake at night and wonder what God would say to me when I saw him face to face- would he say “well done good and faithful servant- you did all you could do?” Or was I holding back? When God called me to reach out to my local public school elementary kids and being Jesus to them became my passion in life, i no longer wrestled with that question and the peace and love of God...just overwhelming. We aren’t saved just for us. We’re saved to save others. To recognize the suffering of the fatherless and husbandless in our very own culture and do something about it in the name of Jesus. No more reading about how to pray- you pray. No more watching sermons on how to reach out- you reach out. That lukewarmness just vanishes into passion and fulfillment when we give our all to the one who gave us his all. Love this pastor. God bless his courage and honesty to be real with the Word.

The truth of God's Word truly sets us free even if it's hard to hear and apply. Salvation is a free gift, one that we can't buy yet it will require everything we have as a result of receiving the gift... What's wrong with thinking like this? Yet so many people in the churches across America see this as too hard... Help us Lord Jesus to love you as much as you love us. That we would give you the best of us as you've already given us the best of You!

It's definitely a life changing sermon. But it's still a self centred one. "Put Earth off now for better stuff later!!!" With an attitude like that, your motivations are wrong. God wants a relationship with us... that's all. The correct motivation comes from knowing who God is, knowing what he's already done for us, given us, to realising He loves me, and responding to that, in every way possible.

I m preaching the Gospel for 28 years and I m recently studying whether I ve been preaching all the truth or not about this passage. I have to be honest, I m not sure whether throwing away wealth is the way or not loving anything but God, mening really testing yourself all the time. Actually, being a pastor of a small church, I did not ever get a penny from anyone, and I ve been struggling all my life to raise my 4 children working hard, and making business. I don't feel any regret, but still I m a little skeptical for which is the best of all. I m certain that without money, the world would be much better. But what is the exact proposal of Francis. Become homeless to feel the absolute need of God in every thing? I ve known people who loved, really loved wealth, being poor. I left behind my studies in university, my big plans when I was young to follow Christ and become a worker for his glory. I m ready to do whatever is needed, but not what is not needed or ordered by Jesus. And I think that Francis is a bit deceived with the whole matter. Nevertheless, I m not sure of that, and I m ready to accept advice.

No, you still don't know the true meaning of this passage. This passage is simply saying that you cannot buy your way into salvation. (It's faith alone, no work is required. Grace alone). Rich people cannot think that they can go to heaven by using their good deeds or work or money or wealth. Anything more than faith alone degrades the power of salvation.

I appreciate preachers such as Francis Chan who aren't afraid to preach what the world needs to hear. The key word is NEED. Many preachers preach what people WANT to hear. Someone who commented below mentioned Osteen and his followers. I agree! They really need to come out of their sports arena and hear THE WORD OF GOD. Not the word of Joel & Victoria Osteen. It feels good to hear the good things that could happen in our lives but no one wants to hear the painful things that also are a part of life. It's reality. I do have to point out this though, no offense Francis Chan, I'm a fan but you quoted the verse wrong. Luke 18:27...What's impossible with man, is possible with God. You said "impossible with God". But I know what you meant to say. Thanks for your candor.

So true. One comment that struck me is around 13:44, how money gives us a false sense of security. I don't want to start any argument, but the same could be said with our "worship" of guns. The Word says, "Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.' (Psalm 20:7) Many Americans would add "...and in Smith & Wesson." Guns provide a false sense of security in exactly the same way money does. Their both "the world," the way the world does things. Are we not called to be different?

thanks for this video!!! I have noticed for a bit now that looking closely in the churches in Revelation some of them and some with soiled clothes, some were labeled as DEAD, some had white linen, some had different false doctrines etc...etc.. the church is ALIVE in Christ!! The righteous have white linen, only the wicked have soiled and polluted clothing. Some had a different gospel. It is more than obvious to me that there were unsaved among them in these churches. I'm about half-way reading your book. I agree on almost all of what you say; however, when you recall the early church you guarantee that by doing everything the way it was done then, miracles will take place again. That is also if God wills; do not guarantee that Mr Chan, do not take it for granted, that is also up to God. Guaranteeing or taking for granted is also of the present American "church", not of the early church. The Scriptures do not guarantee anything, but everything is up to God. Everything ought to be done as in the early church because it is the right way to do it, the way it pleases God, not out of enticing people with the assurance of miracles. If it is not enough for people to do it because it pleases God, let them leave as well.

If you are saved God is faithful and will always make your back sliding to be for a greater good. The book of Revelations is set in the future where works based salvation is again the way God deals with humanity. We are currently in the Church age, following the books of Paul. We have a faith alone salvation.

If you read what Jesus is saying about the Lukewarm, it’s clear he’s describing those who are rich, in need of nothing and who are NOT BELIEVERS they are NOT SAVED ! “I counsel thee to BUY OF ME gold tried in the fire, that thou MAY BE RICH; and WHITE RAIMENT, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou MAY SEE. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent. Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” Revelation 3:18-20 KJV These rich, in need of nothing “lukewarm” are no different than the rich in this verse...... “It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a RICH MAN to enter into the kingdom of God.” Mark 10:25 KJV It’s PRIDE that keeps man from fully coming to believing on Christ. It’s the very reason God hates pride! “Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.” Mark 10:15 KJV

The problem with the term "luke warm" is that we do not know Jesus' definition of luke warm. Exactly how much devotion to Jesus is required for him to classify a person as hot versus luke warm? Will he only save those who give away all of their possessions and rely totally on the Lord to provide for their existence while walking on earth? Why is there a promise of mansions being set aside in heaven for those who receive salvation, but while on earth mansions are associated with greed, selfcenteredness and the love of mammon, while in heaven it appears to be acceptable to desire material things such as mansions and streets paved in gold and studded with jewels? When man fell in the garden of Eden, didn't God curse man so that he will need to work by the sweat of his brow for his existence on earth, and that if a man doesn't work he should not eat? In the parable of the talents, wasn't the servant condemned to outer darkness for not investing their master's money so that it would grow to greater value? Doesn't this story indicate that a wise person invests what the Lord has given them and therefore saving money is a positive and acceptable thing to do? Furthermore, if everyone gave away everything they owned, what would happen to mankind? Wouldn't earth's entire population ultimately perish within weeks of everyone not working, eating or living inside a dwelling? The point I am attempting to make is that I cannot believe Jesus expects us to give everything away when it is God who blessed us with all that we have.

Having wealth is not a sin God never condemned the rich man for being rich.the rich man was condemned to hell for being rich and other words all his life revolved around was being rich. God knows where The treasure of the heart lies. If all you think about is the latest fashion the latest carand how much money you can make than your heart and your treasure relies on Mammon.John Deere the tractor company owner tithed 10% then he typed 20% and so on and so forth before he tithed 90% of his company. I still he was a multi-millionaire many times over. God will truly bless those who do not put their heart and their trust in the lord. I hope this man is not saying give everything you have away and just be a degenerate poor person this does not show a shining example of God's grace. but rather a true Christian that has money can give and help many people like Dave Ramsey for example. Until when Jesus said it is hard very difficult for a rich man to go to heaven he is correct. Because the rich man has everything he desires and does not need God to help him.but some people God has blessed with the realization that without God he would not have the riches and so the rich man in return just like job gives back to God.if all Christians were poor there would be no help in the world so God bless a certain people what caused by him to help others. Again God sees the heart not the money. When Jesus said With God all things are possible what did he mean?he meant that the grace of God in the Holy Spirit can be and dwelt in a wealthy person and he may have a repentant heart. And from that repenting heart it does not treasure his wealth anymore.if a rich man listen to Jesus I am sure he would not have allowed him to give up all his money he was testing him.and if Jesus didn't want the rich man to give up all his money he should have because the treasures that God has prepared for us are far more beautiful than what we could ever have in this corroding world.but I don't think pastor Chan is saying to be destitute and pour it is that we should be more generous and I'll giving as well as relying upon God for all of our needs not our money. Sorry about the run-on sentences and poor grammar using voice recognition
