Once upon a time, ragtime music was considered very declasse, and to put a ragtime spin on good classical music was truly a desecration. Fortunately, ragtime has since gained legitimacy.

Kenneth Ryesky its indeed interesting how what was once seen as the music of the lower class is now seen as high entertainment

You have the gift - unlike the note readers, speed players, and Jo Ann Castle types I grew up with. A real talent. Mike Cochrane Riverside California

Shades of Der Scrage of the fifties ( Fritz Schultz Reichel ) and excellent piano work!

Sprightly and enjoyable; it's good to know there were more good ragtime composers than only Joplin. Ragtime in general is lovely.

This is a rag I've not yet heard. What a great toe-tapping number! I have a copy of the music, and now I feel obligated to learn it now that I know what it sounds like!

I came to hear this selection on 78 records, but your rendition and piano tone is wonderful. Reminds me of my upright players I had many of with a lot of rag pieces on both 65 and 88 note rolls. Keep up the good work.

Fantastic - lots of quotes from the classical literature.

This (recorded in 1914) can be considered an ancestor of "jazzing the classics"--e.g., Art Tatum's versions of *Humoresque* and Duke Ellington's *Ebony Rhapsody*.as well as the references to Chopin's *Funeral March* in Ellington's *Black and Tan Fantasy* and Jelly Roll Morton's *Dead Man Blues.*

@brentcoombs52933 жыл бұрын
@@jordan4748 It would certainly have been played/recorded by Felix Arndt (kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y2rdg3ShYq6KgbM), likely for an Aeolian Piano Roll (kzbin.info/www/bejne/g2PJmK16Z9GEe6M). I have a Metro-Art "HAND-PLAYED" 203212 Roll of Felix Arndt playing 'Humoreske' "properly". I'm glad Felix got the opportunity to let his improvising talent shine on this "Desecration" - which is anything but. Cheers.

When I hear this tune I always think of Oscar Brand's version and his references to waiting for an empty lavatory on the train.

THe Duo-Art roll played by Felix Ardnt is far superior to this rather flat, dull humorless recording. What is its origin?

Sounds like a midi file of the sheet music.
@p3t3rchris5 ай бұрын
Yes. Very mechanical, not played by a person. MIDI file explains it.
