Coming from someone who is new at shooting, I like the demonstrations with cinder blocks. It shows me the destructive power between the different caliber weapons. It sounds pretty silly, but I can see how much more damage a DE 50 ae can do compared to a 9mm Beretta. If a person don't have easy access to those firearms on their own time, they're not going to really understand what the weapon can do.
@Tential12 жыл бұрын
Yeah I had no idea what this weapon did to people and it kind of doesn't make sense in video games cuz if you got hit by this once you're going to die. If I can hit an attacker with this though I think this captures the amount of aggression I have

I have a MkXIX in .44 Magnum and got the .50AE and .357 Magnum barrels for it. In .357 it is completely unforgiving of ammo that is either not hot enough or has a bullet weight of less than 158 grains. If the ammo isn't hot enough, the gun will happily cycle and eject spent cartridges, but the slide will not recoil far enough to pick up the next round. Which is exactly what the L5 was doing in this video. The .357 is happiest running hot 158 and 180 grain ammo. The gas system needs plenty to work with. Even hot 125 grain won't run the gun properly. I've also tried .38 Special+P out of curiosity. It will eject, but won't recoil far enough to load the next cartridge.

If you own a DE, and I do (.357 Magnum), then the 44 Magnum is giving you approximately 90% of what 50AE offers...and sometimes more but with a lot more cost effectiveness and availability.

Did you end up buying this FM ammo? Its so cheap, but also hearing so many people with issues, and I don't know if it was a problem with early or late batches or what.
@jasonelbert73527 жыл бұрын
I'll be honest. I've wanted a Desert Eagle since I was a kid. I sent off a money order when I was very young for a VHS cassette from Desert Eagle that went over its specs and had video of them shooting water melons. I always wanted one but I was about 15. I shot a rental .357 and realized how big it was in the hand. Then I shot the .44 years later. Still a novelty. Now with collection well rounded, I'd love a why not piece. I like the finish on that .50 and it had me wanting one. But the failure to lock back on empty and the issues with the .357 make me wonder if I should look elsewhere. After all, there are a lot of cool options in that price range.
@nfareview7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment Jason. As for the 50AE failing to lock back, I can almost say for certain that it was the result of me riding the slide stop. I do this on all my Sig Sauers. It's just how I hold the grip. And the 357 I'm not really worried about, I know MR will take a look at it and make it right. I also looked at some more footage and in some scenes the slide didn't go 100% to the rear but it still ejected the casing. It could be the ammo, the recoil springs (too stiff) or a combination. All that said, the 50AE ran 100% and If I had to choose one right now, it would be the 50AE.

I don’t limp wrist, I’ve lubed it wet and then semi wet and still fails to go fully into battery. Slide stops 1/8-1/4” away so I have to push it back into battery with my thumb while aiming. The magazine has an indention at the front that holds the nose of the cartridges in the center of the magazine with the tail of the cartridges staggered back and forth which is why the grip is as wide as it is. I think the success of the Desert Eagle over other auto magnum pistols such as the AMT AutoMag and Wildey Magnum is that the initial .357 and .44 Models used readily available revolver cartridges. The magazine is wide enough that it could be a double stack if it chambered a rimless cartridge like .44 AMP. The Desert Eagle has been offered in two other cartridges in its lifetime, .41 Magnum and .440 CorBon. .440 CorBon is a .50AE case necked down to .44. Neither was very successful and was dropped from production.

I loved your review of the DE .50AE vs L5 .357 Mag it was very informative. I have shot a .50AE before and I loved it and plan to buy one soon (I have a birthday coming up). My question is If you had to choose between the combo, which is a great deal, or the DE 50 AE w/ported barrel which would you choose. (Other factors: I was thinking of buy a .44 barrel anyway because I can shoot it a little cheaper, but I prefer the stainless, nickel, or gold finish). Also, what do you think about the newer aluminum Should I consider the .357 first?
@philapop52695 жыл бұрын
Here's an interesting fact- the Desert Eagle shooting the .50AE has the same amount of energy at 100 yards, as does a .45ACP right out of the barrel. I own the Mark XIX in .44 mag (black), and a nickle plated .50AE. Next month I am ordering the L5 in .44 mag (or .50AE). Not totally decided, but am leaning towards the .44 mag. I would be interested in understanding the recoil between the Mark XIX and the L5, both in .44 mag or .50AE. Has anyone shot the 2 guns w/ the same ammo?

How obnoxious was the comp on the 357? Most desert eagle owners like shooting the pistol and dealing with all the malfunctions but don't like paying ammo costs. Hell even reloading that stupid round is up there in price.
@johnbutler13237 жыл бұрын
Buy the MkXIX 6" and get all three calibers for it. There is no way to cheaply shoot .50AE. Even if you reload your own ammo, you have to use plated bullets or molten lead will clog up the gas system. And I can't stand to shoot more than a few magazines of .50AE per range session anyway. I know I'm done and can't control the recoil anymore when the gun starts tossing empties in my face instead of over my shoulder. In the .357 Magnum the gun turns into an all day plinker and aside from the report and fireball there's less drama than 9mm out of a Glock 17. On the full size steel frame gun a comp is superfluous in .357 Magnum. There's no real need for it.
@MrJoshcc6006 жыл бұрын
I reload mine and use berry bullets flat nose 300 gn and h110 I can load at about .60 to .70 a round if you buy in bulk. Of course you could get hornady xtp 300 gn for around 1.00 but thats a high end hollow point. For range fun and just pulling the trigger cheaper is better...

What about the 44 version. That's the only version I can get in my country :

I have the .44 and I enjoy it immensely. I basically got the .44 because the ammunition is cheaper than 50ae. Very accurate and reliable fun. I will get the 50ae barrel for it one day

I usually dislike the Desert Eagle on the grounds that it is really a pointless gun, with ridiculously expensive ammo. Yet I still love the thing and would absolutely own one in .50 A.E.

Why we acting like 357 mag isn't ~35c for handloads?
@bosstube90467 жыл бұрын
I mean just reload for it it'll be even cheaper
@MrJoshcc6006 жыл бұрын
When I got the 50ae I also learned to reload at the same time (coincidence?) I can load 300gr cheap flat nose rounds at about 60 or .70 each. Comparable to a lot of rifle rounds

$1.20 per round?! 😮. I wish. I pay $2.00 for 458 SOCOM.

They didn't build it to handle the 50ae. The design had been around for years before the 50ae came out.
@UndergradPigeon7 жыл бұрын
From what I understand the idea was to produce it in the more common calibers first to get the funds to produce the new .50 AE so they had it in mind.

The original gun was designed around .357 Magnum, that's true. The MkI Desert Eagle is a substantially smaller gun with a slimmer barrel and an unloaded weight of just over three pounds that was first introduced in 1983. In 1987 the slightly larger MkVII model was introduced in .41 Magnum and .44 Magnum. Both the MkI and MkVII use the same frame, but use different slides and barrels. In 1990 the MXIX in .50AE was introduced with yet another different slide and barrel but using the original frame. In 1994 Magnum Research dropped .41 Magnum from the lineup and standardized the remaining calibers to use the MkXIX .50AE slide. In 1999 .440 CorBon was introduced which was a .50AE case necked down to .44. There were problems getting the neck dimensions right as the case indexed on the shoulder and production was halted with only a few thousand guns built and a few thousand more conversion barrels made. There is also a 1000 unit run of .357 magnum Production Prototype guns starting with serial #3001 made in 1983. These guns look like the MkI, but parts are not interchangeable with later production models. The Desert Eagle was originally contracted by Magnum Research (which holds the patents) to be built by Israeli Military Industries from 1983 to 1994. In 1994 IMI began to reorganize and spun off their civilian manufacturing into Israeli Weapon Industries. During the reorganization Magnum Research had the Desert Eagle built by Sako Defense in the United States. In 1999 the newly formed IWI resumed production in Israel. While the MkI and MkVII had been officially out of production since 1994, new guns were still being assembled and sold into the early 2000s by MRI. In 2008 Magnum Research was bough by Khar Arms and the bulk of Desert Eagle production was moved to Pillager, MN with a limited number of guns built in Israel.
