Desert Eagles are an explosive five-piece musical collective from the Barkly community of Ali Curung in the Northern Territory - a melting pot of four tribes and a musical heartland for Warlpiri, Alywarra, Waramungu and Kaytetye peoples.
Through a mix of hip hop, rhythm and energy, Desert Eagles capture the passion of their country, people and community life.
Desert Eagles formed in 1996, with band member Frederick (rhythm and bass guitar) and his younger brother. Frederick (rhythm and bass guitar) is now joined by Delton (vocals), Maxfield (keys) and Titus (vocals), the band sing lyrics in Alyawarr and English and create songs to play live and make people happy. The band cites Lajamanu Teenage Band as one of their favourite musical acts.
The band released their self-titled debut album in 2022, which they recorded Winanjjikari Music Centre in Tennant Creek, with support from Barkly Arts.
Alice Springs 8CCC 102.1FM radio featured the album, saying, “Desert Eagles take off like a rocket on the back of the opening dance floor anthem ‘Arelh-Alywarra (Alywarra Woman)’ - a signature party starting firework that has been sending audiences wild from the very first notes. The album continues on to explore moments, places and people from a sing-along hip-hop chorus to tender reggae-infused story-telling. A true journey and a not-to-be-missed snapshot into the heart of the Australian desert."
Desert Eagles played Desert Harmony Festival back-to-back in 2022 and 2023 and were selected for MusicNT’s prestigious Bush Bands Bash and Business Summit. They are supporting Eastern Arrernte Band at Ali Curung and Tennant Creek, on the band’s Bush Tour in September 2023.
