Laramba Reggae Band hails from Laramba, Northern Territory, 200km northwest of Alice Springs. Members come from the communities of Laramba, Yuemdumu and Mbumghara and formed in 2019. The band includes two sets of brothers and they sing Anmatjere language and English.
Laramba Reggae Band add shades of pop, punk and a dash of rock to their music, singing songs about home, love and heartbreak. Their melodic breakup song ‘Why Did You Leave’ has already been watched over 30,000 times on KZbin - in the first three months since posted.
The band has honed their live show playing the footy festival circuit around the NT, which brings together local communities through sport and music. They are three-time Battle of the Band champs with wins at the Utopia Battle of the Bands (2022), Santa Teresa Battle of the Bands (2022) and Mimili Battle of the Bands (2023).
They were selected for MusicNT’s prestigious Bush Bands Bash and Bush Bands Business Summit and played in front of more than 3,000 at Alice Springs’ Telegraph Station. The weekend was a busy one for keyboard player Marcus Glenn, who played in the local Grand Final the night before the concert.
Influences include Lajamanu Teenage Band, Irruntju Band, Solomon Islands reggae bands Dezine and Jaro Local, and Jamaican artists Peter Morgan, Bob Marley and Stephen Marley, and the late South African reggae star Lucky Dube, who many of the band members remember seeing when they were kids at the Alice Springs Showground.
